Replacing Bose system

I'm replacing the Bose system with after market stuff. Since I'm not wiring the new head unit into the existing speakers, do I still need the special wire harness that Crutchfield recommends for the premium sound system or would the free one they offer up work?

For those of you that have done this, what harness did you use?

Re: Replacing Bose system

I have 2 speakers in the sail panel. I'm not sure where the others are. They aren't in the trunk area nor the kick panels. I'm assuming they are in the dash. Since I don't have a headunit in the car I don't know if they work or not. Stereo hasn't been a priority with the other fixes I had until now.

If they all work, which I'll find out soon, I'll sell them for $10 per speaker then like $5-$8 to ship if you want them.

Re: Replacing Bose system

The Bose system consisted of a rear deck with speakers and kicks. Each had a built-in amp. You've likely got the standard wiring and the 'free' harness should work.

You can check this by verifying which harness connections you need in the dash. If it's only three plugs (rear speakers, front speakers, power/grd/lighting) then the free ones the ticket.

Re: Replacing Bose system

Hey Naf,

As far as I knew I had the Bose system. I had the RPO code for it, uu8, and have all the original documentation from the factory and that Bose manual was still with it. Here is a shot of my wires if you can figure it out.

I took off a sail panel and found a Prestige 6x9 in there. I think the Bose speakers are gone.

Re: Replacing Bose system

The blue, black and white connectors may be the normal factory connections, and looks like someone's already spliced new speaker wire into them for the non-factory 6x9s and dash speakers.

The standard adapter should work fine provided they were wired to the correct speaker. White with green wire should be front, blue should be rear and the black should be power/lighting IIRC.

Been away from the computer over the weekend, sorry for not answering sooner.

Since the factory rear deck lid is gone, do you still have the Bose kick panels? They should be a thicker (maybe 2") kick with small speakers inside, covered in carpet.

Re: Replacing Bose system

I don't have anything in those kick panels speaker wise. It seems that the system was taken out, replaced, and then the new one partially taken out again before i bought it. Well, on the bright side, at least the stereo is all hacked up instead of important wiring..

I'm glad I went out and took that picture for a second opinion. It looked like it was rewired I just wanted to be sure so I don't buy that $40 harness at Crutchfield that they offer.

Thanks again for the help.

Re: Replacing Bose system

update:

I ended up taking the dash speakers out and the sail panels out and figuring out the wiring better this afternoon. I had to remove both anyhow since my replacement stuff will be here Friday of this week.

All my speaker wires have been replaced with two different gauge wires. Both rear sail panel wires have Black and Black/White wire. The front is just gray coated wire until you get to the plugs that were attached to the dash speaker. Then he had a blue clip on harness to those front speakers. Had a fun afternoon figuring this all out.

It doesn't look like I can use the free wire harness here to be honest. I'm just going to buy new wire, black for the negative and another color for the positive, then just rewire the speakers and run it all into the plug from the head unit. I'll label all the wires and just be done with it all.
