Pioneer 1.5 DIN - Antenna Adapter needed or not?

I took out the Pioneer din and a half HU that came with my 88 TA when I bought it 2 months ago because I wanted to swap in my Pontiac CD player from my 86 TA, only to find out the power plugs are different...so that didn't work.

When putting the Pioneer back in, I noticed I did not have an antenna adapter coming out of the back of the Pioneer, but the factory antenna plug went right into the hole on the Pioneer. Is this all I need? The reception seems to be pretty lousy, leading me to believe this isn't right.

I know these HUs were designed years ago to be a "direct fit" for a GM car, so maybe you don't need one? Any help is appreciated...sorry for the dumb question. The stereo in this thing is pathetic...3 speakers are blown, and 1 is blown so bad it doesn't work at all. I assume all are OEM speakers...
