87 Firebird dash speakers went out, any help?
I need some help guys. My front speakers went out on my 87 Firebird. I think the guy who owned it before me tried rewiring somewhere and snipped a wire or something. I was wondering how I could fix it, or how much it would cost to have someone fix it.
My dad says its gonna be about 400 dollars plus new speakers, but Im not too terribly sure about that.
Thanks guys, and God bless!

If he just cut a speaker wire than its simple. A wire nut but or some tape and it's fixed. Just take ur dash pad off and pull the speaker out and check the connection and wires. If you take it some where maybe 100 or so but that's including new speakers. Shouldn't be a big problem from description

If BOTH front speakers went out, it probably is not the speakers - its probably the radio. Did they both go out at the same time? Were they working when you got the car?
A simple test (after you have examined any splice connections you can find in the wiring harness from the prior owner) would be to attach a known good speaker to the speaker leads either under the dash or up top where they connect to the speakers. If it plays, then its the old speaker. If it doesnt, check the wiring again for any breaks or connection separations. If you find nothing, its the radio.
You could also put a voltmeter (set to ohms) between the radio end of the speaker wire and the speaker end of the wire. The wire is good if you measure 0 ohms. Remember to do both the positive and negative wires.

I was informed the other day by the previous owner, who is somewhat of a family friend, that he was cutting away at the speakers to do rewiring, but he forgot where.
....He...Forgot....WHERE.
Lovely. Lol
Now i get to go root around under and in my dash.
