Re: For those of you who have 4th gen dashes

What I'm planning on doing with mine is getting rid of the door panel pockets and putting pods in there. Since there obviously isn't any room in the dash for even a 3.5" speaker. Never really liked the factory speaker locations anyways, and I never cared for the door panel pockets that seem to collect nothing but dirt. Besides, mine are a lot more loose than your are (years of being baked in hot Southern sun killed the elastic just like it did with my dash map pocket's Velcro).

Since you have an auto, you could even opt for the kick panel pods. I have that third pedal, so I can't do that.

I would do kick panel but im converting to a manual so no go on that the and map pockets i think would look kinda weird without them plus i would still have the electric window motor to deal with

Re: For those of you who have 4th gen dashes

I'm going to replace the door pockets with speaker pods. Not going to be cheap (I'd need to have it done because I'm sure fiberglass and I won't mix too well), but I won't have the window motor to deal with and I'll get rid of those nasty pockets.

Thing about the door panel pods is that they can be built to attach to the door just like the pockets, and you won't need to cut the panel behind for the speaker magnet, much less stick the magnet through the door to the window motor.

Not until a couple months after the car is finished. I got an estimate from the shop and they're saying about $300 for the pair.

Re: For those of you who have 4th gen dashes

I'm planning to cut the lower section of the matching 4th gen door panels and use fiberglass to make a speaker pod that won't get in the way of the window motor. shr00m has a post somewhere detailing what he did, and it looks better than factory.

Re: For those of you who have 4th gen dashes

I just found his thread great job nontheless i would have to ditch my gta panels and fabricate a new set which i don't want to have to do id much rather modify the kick panels but due to changing it to a manual trans thats not possible. Ive pondered the idea of putting one where the airbag would go but not sure how to go about that and one somewhere else but i believe that would cause to much rattling......... Maybe im over thinking this...

Re: For those of you who have 4th gen dashes

You could put tweeters into the A-Pillar/dash gap that needs custom fiberglass anyway.

Hmmm that's something to think about if I don't put gauges on the piller.... this may be a stupid ? But a tweeter is the same as a speaker just smaller?if not what purpose does it serve to have them?

Re: For those of you who have 4th gen dashes

Tweets are about 1.5" in diameter and only provide high and not mids like a normal speaker.

Since you dont have any of the heater box stuff, why not make some mounts to go in the 3rd gen dash location? Just cut some holes in the piece that covers the defrost vent.

Re: For those of you who have 4th gen dashes

Driver's side would be angled pretty funny... The defrost vent on the driver's side is part of the plastic trim over the gauges and holding the exterior light switch in place, and there isn't any room next to it for even a tweeter to point in the right direction. And there really isn't all that much room under the gauge trim for a speaker assembly. Only place to mount one in the dash there would be a tweeter in an A-pillar pod.

Re: For those of you who have 4th gen dashes

Could probably do a speaker in the middle of the dash and a tweeter by the driver's side a pillar, only problem i see is trying to make a box or making something to surround the speaker so its not just hanging there
