people with vidio systems in your cars,...please enlighten me...
I like to install sound systems in cars, and in this case: fix someone elses jacked-up work. the car I was working with was pretty nice,it was a Mitsubishi Diamante with the standard front and rear speaker locations with two 12"s in the trunk and an amp for the subs and the rear 6"x9"s,the fronts were powered off of the head unit, which was an LCD vidioscreen display unit. there was a "control" unit under the seat with about 50 regular wires and 4 pairs of RCA cables connected to it. the kid said it was the "brain box" for the vidio screen, and the whole system won't work without it. it looks like a small crossover unit, yet has no adjustable controls on it,just connections. so,what does it do?

update...
I asked someone about this today and he suggested that it could be an FM reciever if the LCD monitor is used to pick up TV stations...seems possible, why is there such a cluster of wires all around this thing?

Generally they are either a DC-DC convertor for the power supply and can be the tuner section for the unit itself.
By moving these functions ouside of the head unit, it leaves room for the screen and motorization components. Plus it keeps the heat down inside the unit and away from the screen itself...
These are just a few basic reasons...but most of the wire bundle you saw is most likely related to the video screen...have you ever seen the amount of wires it takes to run an LCD? Open up a laptop sometime and look at the lead to the screen.
