Just to let people like myself and those who dont have
experience with carbs.
I couldnt adjust the primary float.
The reason is simple, the adjusting nut was stripped
and wouldnt turn the adjusting screw.

I tried to adjust by hand but over adjustment caused
fuel to pour out of the sight plug.

Then it seemed like the float bowl drained completely
because the engine would keep shutting down.

I got it running again now, and I have to get that adjusting nut.


Could I purchase the nut without getting a kit?

I am not sure about a brand new nut, but you could try a salvage yard. I know I needed a few small Screws (for th vac sec lid) on my holley. went out to the yard. and took my 3 minutes to find a pile of holley carbs (and by pile i mean about half a bus by about a foot deep) And got the screws for it. All the carb adjustment nuts i think are pretty standard to the holley carbs. So that would be your best bet if you just want the nut (will prolly cost you a whole 50 cents plus a little time) vs buying a kit, or ordering the thing from holley and haveing to pay more in shipping than the part cost.

NP. pretty common question when a screw is lost on a holley. I spent all of 4 hours bouncing from part store to part store.. and even the ones that had holley's right on the shlef could not help me... so i figured a yard would be the best place cause there is always carbs there lol

I was thinking about getting a used holley 2160.
I want to take it apart so I could learn more about it.
I guess this is where I could start to collect parts
for the carb.

yep. would be a good start. Heck, who knows. you might even get lucky and find a better carb.. I picked a Demon 1000cfm carb while i was searching through. I don't have anything big enough to put it on however.. but it is nice to have it for later lol. I just have to rebuild it.

Thats great that you can rebuild carbs.
Right not I have 600cfm holley and
its suppose to be relatively new.
I like messin with the car as long as I dont break
whats not broke.

Right now I am fabbing up a front spoiler with aluminum
flashing its just a cheap mock up right now but it keeps
me busy.

rebuilding one is the easy part. tuning the stupid thing is quite another thing lol.. I bought my 80457 - 1 (Holley 4160 600cfm) used on an edlebrock performer intake for $150.. and so far i have everything fine and dandy. everything but one thing.. and that it the problem i am having open hard accelleration. i likes to stumble i guess would be the word.. Instead of nice smooth acceleration upon a idle to WOT smash it bogs down a little and is rough..... i have gotten it a little better. but can't seem to get rid of it.. I wish it was like fabrication of body parts. that i can do no sweat lol

The adjustment nut and lock screw come as part of a Holley inlet valve kit, last time I checked. Pretty sure you can buy inlet valve separate from the complete rebuild kit.

I dont go to wot but when I do push it
I always get a funny smell
dont know if its running lean or rich or if thats
why it smells wierd.
So many things to do.
I dont have any experience with this stuff.

I have to put an air fuel gauge from the oxygen sensor
thats hangin down around my speedo cable.

I know I bog if the engine is cold and once I had to turn up
the idle screws when she was backfiring threw the carb
it sounds like little pops.
