Fan control on carbed motors

Since most folks that are running carbs have lost their computers I wonder about what others have done about fan control. Do you have to run an ECM for the fan relay and switch to work? I am running a carb and have lost the computer so what are my options for automatic fan control at this point? Do you still use the fan relay? Any idea would be helpful! TIA

My car dodnt come with electric fans, i created my own system.

External thermostat switch and manual switch to input into 2 relays. Relays power the fans.

That's essentially what I did: Manual switch or gauge-activated, through a relay.

I think the stock electric fan setup will work without the ECM - the fan switch in the block controls the fans, not the ECM.

However, I always hated that fan switch - I never got one to work right, so I plugged the hole in the block and got a seperate controller for the fan from Flex-a-lite - it has the probe that pokes between the fins on the radiator, and wiring for it was simple - now I have no more "fan fear" at all!

89 camaro fan wiring

Is there a fan switch that will take the fan relay to ground without going through the ECM. If my thinking is correct I should be able to power a tan wire constantly when the car is running and ground the other side of the relay with a fan temperature switch that goes to ground using the green wire. This should energize the relay and turn on the fan. I can also run the green wire to a toggle switch and turn on the fan manually if desired. So I have two questions.
1. Who makes and where do I find one of these switches?
2. Am I nuts or has someone already done this???

I read the article that James posted from the tech section of this website when I converted my TBI engine over to carb. Then I went and purchased an aftermarket lower temp fan switch and screwed it into the stock location (pass. side head, between plugs 6 & 8)- it works as advertised. At the track, though, it always seemed to be on the hot side of the range so I ALSO patched into the same wire that the temp switch grounds out to turn the fan on and installed an in-line fuse connector that then went to a good ground. That way when I'm at the track I can pop a 1A fuse into the fuse connector to ground the relay and run the fan continuously. Pop the fuse back out and it's under the control of the temp switch again.
