carburetor on e-bay

Two companies on e-bay, Atlantic speed and Speed Unlimited advertise Holley 750 cfm 4160 carbs with electric choke and vacuum secondaries for around 250$. Is this a scam cause Jegs wants 500$. Are these the same carbs. The e-bay guys say that their brand new. What am I missing?

First of all those 4160 carbs are NOT 500 bucks. I have a brand new one sitting around that I will sell to you for 250. Jegs and Summit have them for around 300.

Mine was bolted up but never ran. Let me know if you are interested.

F-Bomb,
I have bought stuff from Speed Unlimited before and the parts were really nice.
Spartyon,
The Jegs page does have them listed for 270. Here is a link...
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...12893_-1_12113

Summit has them listed for about 280.

I was looking at the holley street HP carburetor which is 499$ at Jegs. What is the difference between the street hp and the normal 4160 750 cfm. Is it worth the money to get the street hp.

The only difference is adjustable air bleeds and smoothed main body. What is this carb going on? If you were looking at the HP series you might want to be looking at the 4150 double pumper carbs. Personally, the HP vacuum secondaries are a waste (actually vacuum secondaries in general aren't really prefered). Depending on your application I would take that money and put it into a 4150 series.

What is your motor by the way?

my motor is a 383 stroker with a 700r4 tranny, stock converter. Heads are iron 1.60 2.02 with 1.6 rockers. Cam is mild to medium. 1 5/8 shorty headers. Reaend is 3:42s. I currently have the tpi system hooked up that was on the 305, but it is too restricted and I want to go carbed instead of doing prom burning. From what I've researched a 750 holley with vac secondaries should be good. What do you guys think.

Get the 750 double pumper. Part #4779. That is my prefference. 700cfm would be a good choice as well, #4778.

Car: 87 pontiac fiero
Engine: 2.5 liter
Transmission: 5speed
Axle/Gears: dont care.
im gonna put in my two cents here.. i bought a 650 double pumper from alantic speedway, seems like a good place. but heres a rule of thumb thats been common practice around my area for a while.. 305-400 cid, use a 650. or from 200 hp to 425 a 650 would do nicley. 402-427 sbc, use 750 to 1100cfm, depending on horsepower, 425-bazillion hp use 750 or bigger. there are some exceptions, your running a 383 that turns 10,000 rpms, obviously your gonna need more air... go bigger... some the thing is, people think that they need a 750 for their 350 because their q-jet was a 750.... i used to think that.. but heres the thing, the q-jet runs off demand, so it might only be flowing 500cfm, lol.. so unless your using a high rpm engine with 425 hp.. stick with a 650 or maybe 680cfm carb... if anyone wants to criticize, plz do..lol

I think I'm gonna go with a 750 with vacuum secondaries. One because I have an automatic 700r4 and two the secondaries will only open when the engine needs them; therefore, if 750 is too big with vacuum secondaries the carb is more forgiving to "over carbing". If anyong feels I am wrong or missing something chime in because I am in no way an expert in carbs.

double pumper carbs will be much faster than vacuum secondaries in the 1/4 mile. most have seen an increase of .2 ET

i have used double pumpers in cars from 2800 stall and up with no issues at all. With a 383 I would even consider a 850 double pumper for maximum HP
