help please

Hi, Ive been a member for a while but I don't post at all I just read and learn from ya'll , anyways I recently dropped a new engine in and the car drove fine ,but I went to pick up my friend and we turned the turn by his house and the car died, so we tried to start her up again and she did just fine then died again, did that for about 4 times and the 4th time she started just fine so I drove back to my house and everything was fine turned the turn by my house which it wasnt sharp turn at all and she wanted to die , parked the car and it happened again then as I was driving and she died when i was going on the highway to the guy who dropped the new engine in , we did some testing and there is gas shooting out of the carb , and the gas cap when we took it off it shot gas out. sorry about that long story but I do need help , its a "311"/ with a 650 double pumper holley , and it does have a pressure regulator , because it was a TBI car. thanks for any help.

does the regulater have a return ? I know the tpi cars have a return to release excess pressure back to the tank , not sure bout the TBI.
If not you may have excess pressure going to the carb .not good.
I dont know just a thought .good luck Mike

yes it does but I just contacted the guy and he said he is going to buy a better regulator, we will see if that would help because he bought one that was alright but I guess when I drove the car hard it messed it all up. thanks for your help

A Mallory 4309 is about as good as you can get, and the least you should get.

Something tells me he used a dead-head reg. Bad news for the in-tank electric pump, but shouldn't cause the problem you described.

Holley carbs must have both an in-line filter and the sintered filters behind the inlet nuts (assuming dual feed carb). Make sure that's what he did. On a new build, it's very likely some crud got into the needle and seat, and that's causing your problem.

Could be a reg problem, though.

thank you guys we've got it he added another regulator on there its a holley one with a gauge and everything , and it also got another fuel line for the 100 shot that I am going to add later on , but its running good now and the car actually acts like it still has the TBI but with more power. and again thank you guys. it was the reg

Unless the Holley reg has a return function, you're going to burn out the in-tank electric pump. The pump needs constant flow, and the typical standard Holley regulator doesn't provide that flow.

Even if the car seems to be running okay now, you'll pay for it later if the wrong type of reg is on there.

o it does , actually both of the regs have a return but the first one wasn't doing the job right , it only got it down to 12 PSI , so he got a gauge and everything and now its on 6 PSI.

Okay, sounds good. Wasn't clear from your previous responses.

Good to hear it's back up and running.
