Quadrajet that's been modified.
While looking at my carby while i have it off,i noticed that it's been previously modified. The idle mixture screws are accessible and they were 10 turns out. Maybe this has been contributing to my rich idle problem.Anyway iv'e epoxyed the fuel well plugs with jb weld. Why the screws were 10 turns out i have no idea,i thought maybe the might have vibrated loose, but they were both the same distance out.I had the stock exhaust before where now it's headers,
2 1/2 into 3" and it was running alright on the old system.

4-1/2 turns out is what my rebuild kit said to set the idle mixture screws at. Following all of the other settings such as rich/lean stop and IAB position, I moved the IAB about 1/8 turn to get the 30 degrees dwell once it was on and running. Other than that idle speed is all I adjusted.
The idle mixture screws should be at a position that gives the IAB the authority it needs to get to the proper dwell.

Yeah, 10 turns is a bit much! On a stock V8 CC-QJet somewhere between 4 and 5 turns will probably work just great. Although frankly, I think anything beyond 6 and the mixture screw needles aren't even in the idle discharge holes any more so it's pretty much maxed out anyway.

Hi,Yes it is downunder. The IAB still has the factory rivets in the cover plate so i guess that has'nt been tampered with.I'll get it back together and see what i get and go from there. The fuel wells were quite dirty around them,so they may
have been leaking.

Yea, it's hit or miss if the ccc-qjet was offered on export vehicles. My Canadian car had one, and boy it was a PITA.

I do'nt think it's a export vehicle.I bought it in brisbane australia in 1997,and as far as i know it came out of california as a private import.LA i think.
Another question, does the air horn baffle do anything vitally important as mine has broken away on both mounting tabs and i might leave it off if its not really needed. Also would anyone have the spring for the secondary av tension that they would be willing to sell as mine is rs.I've tried to find one on the net but have'nt had any luck.
Thanks,
Alicat.

I might have an extra non-cc q-jet air horn I could nab those pieces off of. The air horn baffle just keeps air from flowing over, and past the primaries IIRC. I don't think it's absolutely crucial but probably a good thing to have.

Oh yea, then look at modifying your current vacuum can. That place that five7 listed sells the plastic vacuum breaks that have a faster opening rate, but it might be easier to just modify yours.
Look up my thread on how to, I think it's titled "modify-able choke pulloff" or something like that. I think Lo-tec posted a snazzy pic on how he did it. I just drilled through the flat square part with a ~3/16" bit, then used a tiny .020" or so big to open the orifice, then made sure it was roughly 3/4 second to close. Then gobbed epoxy over the 3/16" hole and it was done.
