Mechanical pump with mallory 4309.

Hi all,Are there any issues with using a mechanical pump with this reg?.I was looking at the summit 110 gph, pump and having the reg in between it and the carb(qjet).I know it's probaly not neccessary at the moment, but i'm gathering a few bits while the aussie dollar is good..The pump is 6.5 to 8 psi,so could i regulate it to say 6 psi, doing it this way.I'm also going to put a canister filter in and a inline filter before the carb. Are there any glaring problems. Thanks for any help.

Alicat.

No glaring problems, although the reg will probably operate wide open all the time.

As I dont have a in tank pump or any factory provisions for one,ie,wiring and such, would it be worthwhile going to a holley 130 gph mech pump, which is supposed to have a regulator used with it.I thought this may be better for future upgrades,as i dont really want to put in a electric pump.Is the 130 gph pump, overkill?.

I should be able to keep the pressure ok for the qjet,by setting the pressure on the regulator.

Re: Mechanical pump with mallory 4309.

The big pump is overkill. Even the 110 GPH pump is almost TWICE the flow of a stock one. The bigger the pump the more strain it puts on the pump pushrod/cam fuel pump eccentric lobe. Many cam manufacturers recommend a bronze tipped fuel pump pushrod when using a big 6-valve mechanical pump. And I have not had good luck with bronze-tipped fuel pump pushrods. I've found they wear out nightmarishly fast in street driving.
