Can't get this thing to idle
I'm using a computer quadrajet and I can't get the car to idle by itself. For the fast idle screw do you turn it in clockwise to raise the idle? And I can't get the car started unless I pump the gas pedal. Isn't that ruining the fast idle part, when you hit the throttle?
car will not idle cold or warmed up.
I have no vacuum leaks.

I have had issue's with quadrajet carbs idling. The issue I have had with them is a vacuum leak on the throttle shaft, you might check that out.

Yes.
That's the way it's supposed to work assuming you're refering to having to give it just a few pumps and we're talking about a cold engine.
Hitting the throttle on a cold engine is a good thing. It puts a little gas into the carb and just as if not more important it 'sets the choke' which means the choke will close and the fast idle will be on it's highest step ( there are multiple steps ).
Once the car starts, it's usually ideling pretty high if everythings set to near factory specs. You can then immediately hit the throttle and it should fall down to the next lower fast idle step which should put your idle at an RPM which will allow it to idle good even when in gear. Eventually the choke will heat up enough to where it won't be on any of the fast idle steps and instead be on your normal ( or 'curb' ) idle which is controled by the idle screw on the drivers side.
There could be many causes for this. Was this something that happened suddenly or has it always been like this?
Are you sure? What did you do to verify no leaks?

Re: Can't get this thing to idle
Ah I fixed it. I forgot to check the vacuum hose behind the carburetor that goes to the vacuum sensor(?) and it was NOT plugged in. Got the idle working good now. Thanks for your time.
