Serpentine onto 87 Q-jet engine

I haven't done this swap specifically and I've read a bunch without feeling like I've seen answers to these questions so . . .

Did the stock pump-to-carb fuel line work with some minor bending? My stock line has a short run of black fuel line down near the pump so I should be able to make it work; I can't picture how the bracket & line will work.

Steel bracket for the AC. I picked up one from what I think was an 88-92 TBI Camaro in the junkyard, but it looked like it went from back of compressor bolt to the intake manifold? I have an Edelbrock 4bbl EGR intake so I think I lack the boss to bolt it on? Or am I wrong and it bolts to exhaust?

Thanks for the help. This is my way of getting excited about putting AC on my car and I'm going to run this setup until I go LS, then this setup will belong on my friend's car.

Re: Serpentine onto 87 Q-jet engine

Looks like I glossed over pictures in James' thread when I read it a few days back.

And after looking at S/T and C/K trucks in the junkyard, I assumed the brace was on a longer, inboard bolt, whereas the F-body uses a longer outboard bolt for the brace.

So, about the fuel line ?

Re: Serpentine onto 87 Q-jet engine

Wrenching a little bit in the heat and diligence in reading pays dividends.

I knew I had a break in the fuel line. What I forgot is that it had been run inside the water pump by a prior owner and I have kept it that way through an engine and water pump changes.

I assume the below two pictures (from a thread on here about serpentine belts) are stock and the line is run outside the water pump (unlike mine.)

One step closer to getting to my swap.

The pics you have posted are for the oddball 86-87 serp + v-belts setup.

If you are installing a TRUE serpentine setup (88-up) I have no idea if the stock fuel line will clear everything (probably not). Prepare to modify.

Re: Serpentine onto 87 Q-jet engine

It will. Last night, I removed the smog pump and divertor pieces (from the serp. alternator; v-belt all-else setup) and looked at the fuel line to verify.

I junkyarded the serp. setup from a TBI 88-92 Camaro and a few bits and pieces from trucks and Caprices (like missing pulley from the tensioner and nuts and bolts.)

Re: Serpentine onto 87 Q-jet engine

My 87 to serpentine conversion installed without a hitch. I did replace my old pump to carb fuel line only because it was crap and replaced with a new one from classic industries.

Re: Serpentine onto 87 Q-jet engine

So far, so good.

The driver side bracket doesn't clear an 87 water pump due to a mount boss. That's what I get for doing things out of order.

New water pump, driver side bracket, and PS pump are on. I learned the reservoir for the PS is clocked towards the driver side, so I used the serp. PS pump instead of my perfectly good one.

Re: Serpentine onto 87 Q-jet engine

Water pump had to be replaced anyway for reverse rotation...

My 87 runs the fuel line outside the water pump. My 85 and 84 run it inside.

Re: Serpentine onto 87 Q-jet engine

I thought I recognized these pics of my engine bay when I was doing the swap.

Yes, the water pump does have to be replaced with a 1988-1992 reverse flow version.

I routed my fuel line behind the water pump post conversion.
