was told to put my TPS ? here
my car idles at 2000rpms. this just started yesterday, today i checked for codes. gotta code 24. i checked the manual and it said look at the TPS or IAC. my ?'s are, what should i be lookin for? i know the TPS is the throttle postion sensor and i know it is located on the carb. thats all i know. how do u check one of these things? same with the IAC, where is that on a 86 model q-jet? and how do i check that out too?
thanks

TES headers, flowmaster cat back, performer manifold, TCI converter, jet chip, kn with dual snorkel cleaner. and she still passed the sniffer!

I would chekc out the choke assy. first. The ECM has no way of adjusting the idle speed on the QJet. It can vary the idle speed other minor ways but 2000 on a HOT engine is not likely.
Make sure the choke element is getting 12V (singel wire going into the round black choke element on the pass side of the carb). If it is then make sure the linkage isn't binding and that the choke element is good. When the choke pulls on on a cold engine it sets the idle speed up on a "fast idle" cam that is underneath the choke linkage. They get sticky/rusted sometimes.
If you fix that and the TPS is STILL throwing codes you might want to replace it. The adjustment is factory-set and not easy to adjust (it's under a tamper-resistant cap and reuires a special tool to adjust). They are not usually far enough out from the factory to throw a code unless something is wrong with them (unless left disconnected or the 3 wires going to them are hacked up).
IF the carb has been apart before it's possible the pushrod that presses on the TPS plunger is bent/stuck/missing. It's a tiny little piece and easy to screw up if whoever pulled the carb apart is not familiar with e-QJets.

No kidding Damon. My dad & I were rebuilding the Qjet on my first 84 TA. Putting it back together we realized that tps plunger shaft was missing. You've never been completely ticked off until you've searched for a small green shaft in the grass at 10 PM. LOL
