Opinions needed.

I have an oppertunity to get a 91 z28 convertible. The car is fully loaded, 5.0 TPI leather, etc etc. problem is, I'd have to sell my 89 rs with a bad top to get it. Should i try to sell my89 and get this 91? im thinking yes, but im nervous. I'd have to get the exact amount out of my 89 or i couldnt pay for the 91..

ugh.. i hate decisions like this.

Re: Opinions needed.

Will the current owner hold the car for you while you sell your RS?

What kind of shape is everything with the vert?

Re: Opinions needed.

I say do it as long as they are both in the same condition. And if your thinking of the future, the value of the Z28 will just go up. How many miles are on her?

Re: Opinions needed.

The Z28 Vert is in margionally better condition than my 89 RS Vert. The milage is neglageble, as they are close to beign the same as well. The Z is fully loaded, while my RS is not. However, Ive done a good bit of modification to my RS, and am simi attached to it. The current Owner of the Z28 is in no hurry to get the car sold, but its one of those friend of a friends deals. I have to be sure though, that I get enough to buy the new vert with the cash from the old vert. The only way i can get it is if iget the cash out of my current 89.. otherwise, nothing will change.

Re: Opinions needed.

Purple 92 SS,

Man! I don't envy you on this one.
Somebody on here has a signature that says "A car is never truely yours until you have blead on it."

I know that faced with the same quandry I would be in a mess. I have put a lot of blood, sweat, and money into my RS. She's served me well now for about five years and given me a great deal of pleasure through it all. I would find it very hard to turn loose of the old girl. I guess I would but the sell price would probably be more than the market would bear...

I agree with the others, the Z28 will over time be worth more money than the RS so if this is an investment the trade might be worth it. If you don't anticipate ever selling the car then...

Good Luck
Speedy

Re: Opinions needed.

If you can do it, go for it. Both are nice rides but the Z28 is a step up. Especially if it's for the same cash that you can sell the RS for.
Put the RS up for sale and see if you get any takers. If you do, take that as a sign that getting the Z28 is the right thing to do.

I say sell the RS. If she sells for the price you need, it was meant to be. Good Luck!

Re: Opinions needed.

I say definitely go for it if you can do it for even money. Even if you can do it for a little more money, it's probably a good move.

BTW ... this is the most disturbing "smiley" I've ever seen. Very upsetting and offensive to anyone who has known anyone who has done this:

DO IT!.....or else.

Re: Opinions needed.

Been there. I had an 87 IROC that I put a lot of work into and had a lot of memories with.. some great road trips.. 1 ridiculous 1/4 mile time, which I improved on 2.2 seconds after just taking care of the car basically..
Then along came my current car for sale. It was located many states away, but was in a little bit better shape and was the color I had wanted for a long time. The price was right too. I had to act quick since the price was so good and there were vultures wanting it lol.
It was tough decision.. but I got lucky in that one of my best friends ended up with the car so I still see it and lend a hand working on it.

Re: Opinions needed.

interesting story, picking up where we left off, the car didnt sell on ebay, but boy i kept up trying to sell it locally. Finally put it up on craigslist.com, and well yesterday the 89 RS left. Now, today, in about 8 hours I'll have my 91 z28 Convertible.

It needs a little work, but not near as much as my 89 did. I miss the 89, but the 91 will be all that i had ever wanted from a convertible, so ill be happier in the long run. Its black on grey leather. Has just bout every option i had wanted for my RS, and the TPI motor to boot! So as soon as I get it, ill clean her up good, and post up some photos.

Re: Opinions needed.

Update.

After spending my first weekend with my new 91 z28 convertible, ive come to realize TONS of differences in the two cars.

Honestly, I cant believe how much i liked my 89, after driving the 91. The 91 is so much better in just about every aspect. The 305 TPI is so much more powerful than the 305 tbi, the car seems to be tighter, stronger, less squeaky, more comfortable and overall just better than the 89 ever dreamed of being. I've never owned a TPI car before, so the power difference could just be that, but gosh, i really am impressed.

I decided i'd make a post in here, of what i had, and what I have now.

The 89 :

interior :

and the 91 :

This shows the only exteriror issues i really have with the car.. the paint on the front nose and bumper is really messed up.. other than that, she's good to go.

Interior:

So overall Im glad i did the "swap" I like the 91 much more, and the top on it is not fubared. Overall the car is in great shape from waht i can tell. It even came with some Alston Sub Frame Connectors that have yet to be put in. Ill attend to that when I get time im sure.

What do you all think? like the new droptop?

Re: Opinions needed.

thanks Dan. I sold my 89 for 3600 bucks and picked this one up for 3800.. overall i cant beat it. The shifter is my preference, one of the first things i did once i got it on friday. Im more partial to tbar shifter than the standard push button topped camaro shifter.

Yea, the front end definately needs some help, but i'll get to it as soon as i can afford it.
