Re: Found this vert on ebay

I know an engine question is kind'a irrelevant since this is a sale with no drivetrain, but this ad's comment . . .
You are bidding on a 1989 Pontiac Trans AM GTA. This car like all ofther F body convertibles was made by the company ASC For GM in the 80's . . . . The car was originally a 350 TPI automatic . . . . VIN: 1g2fw218xkl239540
Any opinions? I know my Chevy stuff (a little ) but not to familier with Pontiac. What do you think of this? Notice the VIN. Just curious.

Anyway, seems like a decent chassis and if someone's looking for a good place to start a project car, this might be it.

What about it? Says it had a 350 in it, just like the seller said.

That car isnt worth much, stripped and rusty like that. Its not a 60's Corvette or Mustang.

Re: Found this vert on ebay

Its pretty Rough. I think closer to $100 would take it ok its probably worth $300 in scrap metal.

There is RUST holes on the A-pillars, the floorboards appear to be in less than perfect condition. Honestly at this point I would only be interested in it as a parts car...

Yes, of that I'm fully aware, hence the VIN and the seller's comments do support each other. That much is obvious and doesn't bare repeating.

What is new to me (being more familier with Chevy than our Pontiac brothers) is the combination of the 350 and being a convertible. Sadley, that option was not directly available to the Camaro customers. But, that's why I'm here, not only to help others but to learn something new as well.

Re: Found this vert on ebay

ASC made just under 200 TOTAL Firebird Convertibles with the 350. 139 GTA's or Trans AM's and 42 Formula 350's. ASC also made at least 4 Camaro 350 Convertibles in 1987. There was probably not many more than 4 however.

Chevrolet nor Pontiac did not offer them as such they were all Dealer special orders, drop shipped to ASC then shipped to the dealership from ASC. They are identical in every way to the "Factory" convertibles except the VIN states a coupe "2" instead of Vert "3". Which does not seem to matter to people buying them.
