About to purchase my new convertible top...

Still on the fence about going plastic or glass.
If someone has a glass, please express how it's been holding up over the years.
If someone has a plastic, please express how that's been holding up.

I assume both look great in the beginning, but i'm more concerned with the window lasting as long as the top.

So i've decided to go with www.topsonline.com w/ a stayfast cloth, still undecided about plastic or glass window however.

Another question I have is to replace the weather stripping.
so far I want to replace the rear and the front.
My question is, could the sides wait until later to be installed? if anyone had theirs replaced did they reuse all /most/ none of their weatherstripping.
I really don't want to have any issues, but at the same time--- i want the new one installed.
If i had to replace the sides, that extra 200 plus dollars would require me to wait longer.
Thanks for the help-

whats to wonder ??? Plastic like mine gets dull and ugly / dingy horrible to look out of it at times !! I've never seen a glass window but only seen it online here on the site and they look great !!!!!!!!! I think they said that you have to be careful when lower the top and that you might have to move the rear seats forward a bit to it can go in nice and smooth and then put the seats back. Other than that I'd say go glass but thats alittle more pricey than the plastic .. just my .03 worth

lol... that's what i thought, but i figured there was a way to minimize the deteriorating plastic window.
maybe not... the wife thinks I should go w/ the glass as well.
thanks for your input.

Re: About to purchase my new convertible top...

Mine was replaced fairly close to when I bought the car, that was in 2002. It was maybe a year or two old at the time. It still looks ok, but the plastic is getting a little scratched and fogged at this point compared to how it was and I've been taking care of it and it was always inside. Its not that bad, but to me its annoying and would not exist with a glass window. Even new, its not real clear and since its flexible everything is distorted in some fashion.

I would get the glass myself, I would not even think about going with the plastic again.

Also, remember you can tint the rear if it were glass. I just purchased a glass one for my vert. One mistake or scratch with a vinyl and you live with it till replacement time again.

Yes and no. I agree that bad scratches and fogging/yellowing are pretty much impossible to completely remove. But some can be minimized with products like . . .

I've seen cases where it has almost cleared up the light scratches and fogging. For some, this can improve things quite a bit and even buy some time before it needs to be replaced. Doesn't work to bad on the tail lights either. And if it doesn't help, it's only a couple $$$ spent.

As for buying a new roof with either a plastic or glass window, I'm also leaning towards the glass. Lifespan and the looks are hard to dispute. Good luck.
