Paint is done (pg 2) - Purple haze/silver Z03 LT1/T56 Z28 heritage car
My dad and I went to look at a convertible for sale that I found here on TGO that happens to be about 3 miles from my house, and dad ended up making a deal on it today and leaving a down payment for it, which we'll pick the car up later this week.
It's originally a purple haze '92 Z28 convertible, LB9/T5 combo, at this moment I'm not positive if it's a Z03 Heritage car, but I'm hoping to find the original glove box in the pile of parts that come with it to see if I can find that RPO code.
It comes with an L98 and some aftermarket goodies like an Accel intake base with Edelbrock TPI runners and upper intake, and the T5 transmission that was in it prior to the original drivetrain being removed. Most likely what will happen is my dad will put the L98 and T5 in it, but throw some performance goodies at the motor like a mild cam. I mentioned the idea of doing another LSx swap in it, but he's going to have to think about it for a while because there's every single piece needed to go back to TPI included with the car. It depends on how much outsourcing he wants to do and how long he wants the project to take. We shall see
It was repainted at some point to a 3 stage chroma-base Du Pont paint which is the Plymouth Prowler Purple, not sure what the real name is. But it looks really good.
The top is relatively new and the back window is in great shape, all the interior is included with the car but not installed, it has around 76,000 miles on it if I remember correctly.
Anyways, there's enough parts to fill up a good size U-Haul truck that is included with the car so we're going to have a LOT of fun with it. Oh also, it has chrome Cobra R wheels on it which I think actually look pretty good.

I picked this up for an early Father's Day present to my dad. I found it on Amazon.com of all places! It's NOS GM, still in the plastic bag. The dashes that came with the car all had 25th Anniversary RS emblems on them.

Yes... see my next post
The emblem I posted the picture of is the dash emblem. It goes on the passenger side of the dash.
I'm not sure if it's identical, but it's probably pretty close.

Re: new convertible project
Big update:
I put a $500 deposit on a heads/cam/intake LT1 and a T56 with 70,xxx miles that is in my friend's 1996 Camaro SS. Before he swapped to a T56 it had a TH350 with a 4,000 stall and made 351rwhp. With the T56 I'd imagine it would be closer to 380-390 at the wheels.
He'll be pulling it out of his car in a few months while the convertible is in Kansas getting fresh paint. When it gets back from it's makeover (with beautiful custom heritage stripes), it will get the new transplant.
This just got a whole lot more fun.
In the meantime, keep an eye out for an L98 block, Accel intake base, Edelbrock runners, and a bunch of other TPI stuff for sale.

Got the car loaded up on our trailer for the trip to Kansas tomorrow. We won't be bringing it back home for about a month, but when it comes home it's going to look a lot different.
The next pictures I post will be with the new paint job.

Re: new convertible project: purple haze/silver Z03 LT1/T56 Z28 heritage car
Ok just kidding. My buddy decided he was going to do his LS1 swap in his '96 SS sooner than planned so we pulled his drivetrain out this weekend and my dad got it from him.
Specs are:
350ci LT1
ARP head bolts
ported stock heads
ported stock intake (58mm)
2.05/1.60 Ferra valves
232/232 .608/.608 108LSA
CSR electric water pump
MSD opti and coil
Flow numbers on the heads:
.200 153/118
.300 207/167
.400 253/197
.500 275/214
.600 284/225
T56
Ram HD clutch
stock shifter, will probably get a hurst or Pro 5.0
Through a TH350 this engine put down 351rwhp/307ft-lbs. I believe it is probably closer to 380-390rwhp through the T56. The car that this came out of is a 3,020 lb Camaro that ran door to door, literally, with my 420rwhp Camaro that weighs 3,600 lbs.
Got a really good deal on this stuff because it's a friend of mine, paid $2,200 for eveything. It came with the full wiring harness and the ECM which is already tuned. So once the car is back from paint we'll be starting the install. We're both pretty excited!

Re: new convertible project: purple haze/silver Z03 LT1/T56 Z28 heritage car
My buddy in Kansas who is painting the car thinks he's got the color figured out. The current color on the car isn't the original Purple Haze, it was resprayed with a 3 stage DuPont Chroma-base that is metallic (Purple Haze doesn't have metallic in it, just a mixture of pearls come to find out).
The paint he has picked out for us is the original Purple Haze with a few ounces of a suprise House of Kolor chamelean ( I don't know which one yet ) that he says will be hardly noticable, just enough to give it that edge. It will make it shift to a somewhat "blue" purple instead of a "red" purple.
He's going to mail me a sample spray here soon, so I'll' be sure to snap a pic for y'all.

interesting. My Purple Haze Vert has the metallic in it as well. figured it had been repainted based on some areas of the car. Probably got resprayed with the same thing thats currently on yours.

Small update. My buddy started working on the car this week, he started removing things like the stripes and such. He's been pretty busy with other paint projects but now that he's started it shouldn't take more than 4 weeks or so for him to finish.

Slowly but surely.
My dad had to buy another rear ground effects piece because the painter found that the one on the car had been previously repaired. He got it in the mail this week and is working a little bit at a time on the car.

Got some updated pictures today. We are planning to pick it up at the end of March, but will know an exact date probably next weekend. The base/clear has been laid, and this coming week the stripes will be laid out. The color is a special blend of the original Purple Haze/Hawaiin Orchid and House of Kolor "Chameleon".

It's too bad the convertible COTM is so early in the year, if this thing was finished it would be one of the top contenders I'm sure of it. I'd vote for this car over my own blue one because it is going to be so nicely done and unique.

My buddy that's painting it added a little black accent to the rear bumper. With black headlight buckets and door handles, he said the rear needed something too.

Landon is messin around with a few ideas of adding something unique on one or both of the blisters, the idea is still in progress, will have more on that later.
The idea was taken from the 45th anniversary Camaro

I've just been sent photos of the hood blisters with a custom air brush graphic but I've been asked not to post the photos here until we pick up the car April 6th because my dad checks this site from his computer and my buddy wants to make it a surprise for him. It looks so freaking cool though I absolutely cannot wait to get the car back and show you all!
