Need a temporary cooling fan fix...
Hey guys, my friend has a 92 formula l98.. It has the dual fan setup. It cools down fine unless we are stuck in traffic. The previous owner rigged up the wiring and the passenger side fan doens't come on at all as a result. It can get pretty hot if it idles for a long time. I'm pretty sure the fan works, but the wiring is bad. IS there a way we can wire in a manual fan switch and some kind of wiring just to get it running for wednesday (were going to the tracK).. Were not concerned with keeping the stock switches and relays, because we don't have time to fix those. Can anyone give us an idea of what to do? (what relay we need, what fuse, and what gauge wiring.. We just want to be able to switch it on and off manually..)

the drivers said should come on at 22X, and the other one should come on at around 23X...
sounds like you need to find the relay for the passengers side one, mine was the middle relay on the driver side firewall, and then find the tan wire..
you can splice into that wire and then put the other end of that wire to just a plain old toggle switch, and then run another wire from the switch to a body ground..
the tan wire os the same wire used for the factory fan switch, but that only works around high temp, now you can just flip the switch and ground the relay and turn the fan on.. assuming that the fan works..

Previous owner had a wire hanging down jammed into the fan fuse holder in the fuse box.. We followed it up to the relays. When the wire was plugged in and there was no fuse attached, the charging system didn't work at all... When the fuse was in, the fans didn't work.. So what we did was pull the fuse panel down, and soldered the wire we had in the fuse location to the dark brown wire running from the fuse box. Plugged the fuse in the fuse panel and the fans now work. I suspect the previous owner wanted both fans always on, because we were going to run a wire to a fan switch but quickly realized that both fans were already on.
It isn't exactly like it needs to be, but it will at least keep the car cool while idleing, until we can investigate the wiring further. I'm pretty sure the previous owner had no idea what he was doing. Many wires are just taped together, with no soldering or heatshrink tubing.. I think he tried to wire the alarm in all by himself..
Anyway, going to gateway tommorow, hopefully we'll both be running mid 14's or better..
