need help wiring dual fans to toggle switches
Alright i have been searching for the last hour now, and cant find an answer to my question. my car came with a single fan, wich eventually burned out. what i want to do is install my new dual fans completely manual. i dont want the car to even try to turn them on. I want to wire them so i have 2 toggle switches both lighted and you have to turn on the first one, for the second to work, however i am nowhere an electrical engineer, acually i usually do not do any electrical work. i was hoping that someone can give me a link, show me a diagram, anything. thanks

well i got tired of the car overheating so i decided to hook them up to a toggle switch. well it was easy to set up, but the wires would get really hot after being on for a little while. it ended up melting my wires together and almost catching my car on fire. i now just have them hooked into my fuse box (on my radio fuse) so they are always on. If my radio doesn't come on, then i know my fans are not on. i don't know if other people have had this problem...

im interested as well
i want to know if i cacn do that too. but if its gonna be a hazard(burn me car) then forget it, two switches two fans, seems like it would be less work the wireing it all up to tstat and sensors, and i can control it so whem i know its hot out i can go ahead and set them both on.
to me it would seem you need two fans, power source for each fan, and two switches to interupt each power source.
that is all i know but i want to know if thats right?
some one help us out.

Yeah, you have to remember that the fans probably draw more power than anything else you got. You have to make sure that all the wiring you use is a thicker gauge and that the toggle switches are 30amp switches. If not, you'll melt the switches. I used wire about as thick as stereo amp cable and I've never had any problems.
You can use two switches for the fans and it;s easy to wire one to not come on until the other one does. It would be best to use a relay and then take the power for the second fan from the power wire to the first fan.

I'll have a look at it once I get home and let you know how you can do it. See, I still use the factory relay cause it was easier for me to do it that way. I'll see what I can get.

ANOTHER reason your wires caught fire is due to the lack of relays. You can use smaller wire if you use relays. The sticky post should help you wire this up. For the second switch to turn on dependent of the first, you would probably have to use a 3 pole swirch and "y" off of the accesory pole on the back of the switch that turns on the light to the first switch. This would then take power from the first switch and allow the second to be turned on. I hope this helps!!!!
