I am going to have to replace my water pump sometime in the very near future and i was wondering if i would be worth it to do it myself. So far using one of those hayes books ive done my alternator and my starter but a friend of mine who works at pepboys said a water pump would be harder.(If i sound like i dont know anything about fixing cars its because i dont). Will it be worth it $ wise to do it myself or pay some extra cash to get it done correctly and quickley.

it isn't very hard to do. if you've replaced the alt. and starter by yourself, you can propably do the pump too. just remove the belt, the hose at the pump and the 4 screws from it.

drain the coolant first, take off the belt. disconnect the hose going into the inlet on the top of the water pump. unbolt 2 bolts on each side, 9 1/6 i believe, and you may have to pry it off.

I'd dare say it's easier to replace the waterpump than to replace spark plugs on these cars.

As was said above, drain the radiator, take off the belt and bam, 4 bolts and you're good to go.

Might be a good idea to loosen the bolts on the pully a tad with the belt still on, as I've heard they can be difficult to remove, but I didn't have that problem.

If it's a serpentine setup, shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure the waterpump is correct for your application (long neck/short neck, reverse/standard rotation) and keep in mind the lower hose might still coolant inside.

its not hard to do, you cant get much easier waterpump job than a sbc one
