i had a leak in my thermostat gasket a few days ago, so i replaced the gasket and the thermostat. Despite the small amount of coolant leaking onto the intake manifold, it ran fine, it didn't over heat or anything... but once i replaced the gasket and the thermostat, it'll idle at about 230 degrees, i have no idea why tho. what the hell's goin on with my car?

what temp does it go to when your cruising?
does your fan kick on? and how accurate is your gauge?

it's usually about 190 and the fan does kick on. the guage is accurate to my knowledge, im gonna flush the radiator and see what happens, i think it may be clogged somewhere.

I had the same problem a while back, what temp thermostat are u running, on mine i replaced my thermostat and the parts store gave me a 190* instead of a 160* and thats what caused mine to overheat.

a 190* thermostat shoudln't cause you to overheat. even more so being I believe 190-195* is stock. all the thermostat is doing is controlling the lower end, or what is the coldest your car will run. it doesn't effect how hot it will get.


first thing I would do is verify the opening of your new thermostat. I have seen a few to be failed from the start. just put it in a pot of water and then bring it up to a boil and see at what temp it opens up and how quick it opens up as well as making sure it fully opens. if it checks out righ then you have something else going on.
