stock weight of 3rd gen lightweight radiator?

Can anybody help me document the weight of a stock lightweight aluminum radiator that comes OEM for our cars? I need to know for my racing organization, we can replace them with ones that weight that much OR MORE.

anybody have a spare one you can toss on a scale? Or know the number?

are the 92 ones (with plastic) lighter than the 87 ones?

share your wisdom oh wise net-community....

I have a brand new OEM radiator for a 85 Camaro. I can put it on a bathroom scale tomorrow when I get home. Don't know how accurate it will be, will that suffice?

If he doesn't ill get a weight for you monday evening. I just got done installing a summit aftermarket rad. It was heavier then stock.

Pretty much i would think all aftermarkets are going to way more with the aluminum side tanks vs. the stock plastic tanks.

What is the advantage that you get from Aluminum side tanks? I'm sure it's stronger but does that really matter?

They don't break. Every stock radiator i've seen that has started to leak has been from the plastic side tanks.

Re: stock weight of 3rd gen lightweight radiator?

I called Summitt and they told me that the shipping weight of this Radiator is 34 pounds. There is NO way that it weighs that much, but that's ok. I can figure that the packing materials would weigh 10 pounds or so (that's a high estimate). So long as the stocker weighs less than 20, we are well within the range.

Let me know what you find.

I completely forgot to grab it, i will get it tomorrow as long as i don't forget again. My bad. My summit rad is definitely a good 5-10 pounds heavier then stock.

Re: stock weight of 3rd gen lightweight radiator?

stevo,
No problem, i am always forgetting something -- probably the 3 children always interrupting. ha ha ..

anyway, if you have a camera and can snap some a picture of the scale with the stocker on it -- perhaps with a visible needle -- THAT WILL BE THE BOMB.

there is NO rush on this, i just want to get my documentation ready for when I get protested by some subaru WRX driver.

Re: stock weight of 3rd gen lightweight radiator?

Here ya go buddy: I tried weighing it several different ways 11.2-11.5lbs is what it came out to.

Stupid me forgot to weigh the summit rad

WOW!

THAT"S AMAZING. I OWE YOU BIG TIME.

Are there any parts you need? I have spare fenders, spare 3rd gen steering wheel, hood, assorted other parts. Please let me know what you need and I'll ship you some stuff. (well, if the shipping cost is NOT too high, if it IS, we can split it).

Do me a favor and weigh the summit radiator when you get it. Mine is already installed in the car.

Oh, that's what caused this whole problem. I already installed the summitt in the car last summer in a weekend thrash. Sadly, i forgot to do ANY weighing but when I call Summit they tell me that the shipping weight is 34 pounds -- SO that means that the radiator is probably around 24 pounds, right? -- If you have the box and packing, you can weigh that and subtract from 34.

Sorry to be a pain, i forgot to weigh it
