I did my 134a conversion today, and im not too happy with it.

I vacuumed the system at 30in of vacuum for 30 minutes.
I then charged the system, the sweet spot i fount was 35psi on the low side.
This gave me 50-55 degrees out of the vents.

What is everyone else running? Its better than nothing but im still not happy!!!

Is that temperature driving down the road? What fan speed setting? What state do you live in?

lol thats actually not too bad at all we have an iroc that weve put like $600 in the a/c and get about 60 out the vents 55 highway if lucky...i think its something to do with the condenser size (r12 didnt need as big of condenser have you seen one for a 4th gen that was made for 134a)

Thats about normal for the idle vent temps of a R134a system. I know my 1983 G20 with dual a/c and an upgraged condensor would only get into the mid 40s on the highway with R134a.

I changed my orifice tube to the "blue one"

Did a 87 suburban yesterday, previously a r12 system, just put in some ester oil and filled with 134a. did nothing else. it cooled at 40 degrees all day today, stop and go traffic, freeway, city, parked, you name it.

vacuumed it at 30in for 30 min and filled to exactly 30 psi.

seems wierd to me it worked so much better, the systems are pretty dang close to the same!

Suburban has a large mechanical fan driven from the engine and probably more airflow across the condensor than the camaro. The suburban probably also has a larger condensor with more surface area.

maybe a dual fan setup would help?
ill have to see if i find a bigger condenser i could mount in there also, deffinately be a good experiment!

dual fans woudl help other issues too, such as the car running 40 degrees hotter with the ac on

You don't by chance have a ton of leaves and dirt between the condenser and the radiator do you?

Temp was 100° in Houston today. Driving at 4PM, I was getting 30° out the ducts. Of course I'm not running R-134a. I did turn it up from the 2nd speed to the 3rd speed for awhile. That raised the temps to 34°.

Your radiator fan is obviously coming on with temperature. But is it coming on solely from turning on the A/C as well? (Say turn the A/C on when the coolant temp is 120°, does the fan come on right away?)

i just had the radiator and condensor out when i put the cam in a couple weeks ago, i cleaned out all the dirt and leaves.

the fan is wired constant on, it was that way when i got the car

Both the Van and the Ram sit around 35-37*F on HIGH fan speed while driving in 100+*F weather...But not using R134a here either.
