Shopping around at junkyards or on the net should turn one up for under $75. 50 being usual.

Maybe I got screwed but I paid $100 for mine (used) out of a 1992 Syclone. Add $25 for shipping to Hawaii and the total was $125. There are so few Sy/Ty's here on island it would be pretty much impossible to find one at a yard. I found this 749 ECM on the Sy/Ty web forums for sale section (some guy parting out a wrecked 92 Sy).

I picked mine up from a wrecking yard for $50. I pulled it from a 1988 Grand Am with a quad 4 if I remember right.

Didn't SATURN5 use a 7730 in place of a 7749 and it worked fine? I believe that he did and that you don't need a 7749 ECM.

Yeah you can convert a 730 ECM to a 749 ECM. It requires you repin the 730 to 749 specs and replace the 1 bar map sensor with a 2 bar map sensor. The only advantage of the 749 over the converted 730 is the 749 has an extra injector controller and driver. This means the 749 can run low Z (P/H) TPI injectors but the converted 730 ECM running $58 code requires you use high Z (saturated) TPI injectors. Although you might be able to run low Z (P/H) injectors on a modified 730 if you mess with LJ's impedence converter.
