Reading in 8192 at a 9600 baud rate...

I'm writing a small app that needs to communicate via the ALDL port on a 8192 baud application. I've tried searching on here as well as elsewhere, but wasn't able to find any concrete answers. I did find a couple of places that implied using a standard 9600 baud rate will work fine with an 8192 baud data stream. Can anyone shed some light on the subject?

I know some of you guys have some experience with this, so I figured I'd ask here.

You need 8192 baud. You get garbage if you use 9600.

How do you go about reading in a nonstandard baud rate then?

I found a mention of this issue that I had missed in a previous search.... https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/dfi-...ight=8228+baud

I've never done any serial i/o before, so this is all new to me.

If I understand correctly, to get the 8228 baud, I would have to set a divisor of 14 on a baud rate of 115200? Is that right?

Maybe try looking into some third-party communications libraries that would allow you to set the baud rate numerically.

Depending on what platform/language you are using, here are a few that may help.

The other annoyance you run into is serial port controllers that do not support non-standard rates. The USB<->Serial convertor with the Prolific chipset is one of them.
