Programming for a 383-1993 Caprice TBI

My apologies if this is in the wrong spot still new here. With that out of the way...

I decided against building a motor myself, and instead I am looking at a Blueprint 383. My question is how/who/where can I program my ECM for said motor? I have a 1993 Caprice TBI with an LO5 350 currently with a stock computer.

well you can do it yourself. many of us went that way. I would look at dynamicefi.com for info on EBL-ECU. Or tune the stock ECU. see the stickies at TBI and DIY Prom. Most of us have used TunerPro Rt for datalogging or win ALDL. See Moates for emulating and burning chips(not many do that). Search Moates and you will see options on hardware side.

Otherwise mail order bins is there but it wont be as good as I would like. WB is a good idea.

Thanks for the reply. I'm honestly not keen on doing it myself. I really dont want to get sucked into a never ending cycle of tuning, repeating and trying to see what works. Not to mention the cost of getting everything to tune it myself...

Nothing wrong with a mail order tune if you send your datalogs to tuner multiple times. Now the qurestion is will tuner welcome the multiple corrections needed. Keep in mind the General uses a dyno to calibrate new stuff. Hours and hours of dyno time.

From my experience I would spend the money for the EBL Flash at dynamicefi.com and get your self a WB gauge it will make tuning a lot easier. I started out doing mail order and have ended up with EBL and couldn't be happier. Tuning takes some time to learn, but can be very rewarding, this site is a great resource. If and when you make changes in the future the EBL will make it a snap.

Re: Programming for a 383-1993 Caprice TBI

Thanks for the replies. Having looked at whats involved in a DIY tune plus what it costs just to get started, its way out of my league skill wise, and money wise. Especially if I plan to only do this once. I guess what I really want to know is WHO can do this. Supposedly my motor comes with dyno sheets when it gets here. Not sure if that makes a difference.

My first build//tune was a budget. If you shop around(ebay, classifieds here there) it should be doable. I sold all my budget equiptment when I went to a sophisticated system(ECU with dataloging capacity) for next to nothing. You need a used laptop, burner, and some flash chips, and a cable you can make yourself. Programs are free.

Certainly a better idea at higher cost is Craig Moates. Visit his site for basic equiptment.

Ronny could you describe your next-to-nothing tuning setup please. I have a lot of nothing sitting around, I should be able to do this...

Seriously though I'm new to tuning but just finishing new cam, heads and headers on my 89 L98 TPI. Thx!
