Car: 1982 Camaro converted into an 87
Engine: 5.7 TPI
Transmission: Manual
trying to find out where my ecm was bought
I think the ecm is bad in my Camaro. I used the hitting it method and got the car to run for a few seconds. it was a reman in it. it has a warrenty sticker on it. I don't know if its still good or not because I have no idea where the ecm was bought at. it was in the car when I bought it. the sticker says 7165 ECM remanufactured made in Canada very bottom of sticker says SL1104. just wondering if anyone might have an idea where it came from. thanks

The ECM originated with GM, they are the only company that made them. Being a reman just means that a third party tested it and possibly replaced a part or two.

If you can see the solder side of the board look for very small circular rings around the soldered legs of the components. That hitting it made it run for a few seconds makes it suspect to vibration cracking of the solder joints and not a bad component. Use a loop or magnifying glass. Reheat any joint that looks suspect. Vibration cracking of solder connections in cars is a leading killer of electronics such as radios and speed controls.

I agree, and would like to say to use some electronics flux when the joints are reheated.

great idea. I will bring it down to the dealership I work at and have the guys check it out. would be interesting to find out what was wrong with it. then if it can be fixed, I can still use it as a spare. thanks
