24x with factory tpi

Will the 24x crank trigger distributorless ignition work with a factory tpi? I know the 7730 ecm needs to be changed to an LS ecm and some of the pinouts need to be swapped around. I haven't found any articles online about tpi with 24x anywhere so not sure if anyone has done it.

What do you mean exactly by "factory TPI"? The LS ECM's are sequential ignition/injection and you'll have to wire the crank trigger, coil packs, etc. Basically the stock harness will be of little use. You mean the manifold? Sure it's just a manifold. You can bolt whatever sensors and injectors to it that you want. If you mean will it work with the factory wiring - no.

Re: 24x with factory tpi

Easier to start with ls1 harness, strip it down and repin the firing order and injector order. Lengthen cam and crank wires to run the 24x efi connection kit and cam sync

Its not terrible to do with the right tools and diagrams just takes some time

The '7730 ECM will handle distributorless ignition (DIS). Just need to know the required Reference Angle, maximum allowed advance and maximum allowed retard. S_AUJP v6 "must read me.docx" provides DIS guidelines here: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...-released.html

I have to order all my parts to do the 24x conversion first. It'll be a while. I was going to get the EFI conversion kit from EFI Connection, coils (not sure which ones yet), wiring to the coils and to the 24x crank sensor.

What is the reason for going to DIS? What problem are you trying to solve by making those changes?

Drivability. I can't get it to not stall after coming to a stop unless I give it gas. And the idle isn't consistent. Almost stalls then high idle. Its getting old. It runs fine when I'm out on the freeway going 70mph.

Re: 24x with factory tpi

You just need tuning. COP ignition isn't going to fix any of that. You need the TPS and throttle stop adjusted correctly and the IAC control setup to handle your desired idle speed, gear load, and accessory load.

Thank you GD. I will have to take it probably down to Sacramento and have someone work on it there. There is noone here in far northern California that knows anything about TPI.

It's only about an hour farther to bring it up to me in Portland. No sales tax and in general everything is cheaper in Oregon. Just saying.....

I have all the equipment to tune that and you are unlikely to find any shop in Sac that is owned by a Third Gen lover. I have an 86 Trans Am and a 91 Formula. And a DynoJet for tuning.
