Need Help With Bin File

Does anyone have a good .Bin file that I could use for my car. See sig. I am going to switch to the '165 but I am not sure which file to use. I have seen the ARAP mentioned. What are some of the changes that need to be made for it to work with my car? I see that VATS is checked. Does that need to be unchecked? Anything else? I just need a good starting point for now.

How about APYM? That's an '89 305/700R4 bin. 6E mask, so yes, you'd need to disable VATS.

ARAP has an awful lot of timing, even for the aluminum-head L98s it was intended for. I don't think I'd start with it for an iron head 305, especially as a first time tuning attempt.

Ya know, I just checked the usual places (GMECM FTP, and Moates), and didn't see anything as far as stock 6E 305/A4 bins.

If you don't yet have a '165 memcal, then either APYR or APYM would be good candidates (GM P/N's are 16133473 and 16133467).

If you already have a useable memcal for the '165 swap, and no one chimes in with a 305/A4 bin, then I'd probably try starting with a 350/A4 bin (e.g. AUJM) with the injector constant reduced to 19 (assuming you still have the stock 305 injectors), and tune from there.

I guess the other answer would be to use $32. I'm somewhat biased towards $6E, though.

The one that I have been looking at is one from an 87TPI. I'm not sure which one that is. Where do you find the injector constant? I am using TunerPro to view the file.

For an '87 bin, you should be using some form of a $32.ecu file.

For the injector size, look under "constants" for "FI size" -- it's listed something like "Single Fire FI size" and "Double Fire FI size".

Single fire mode is the important one, for our purposes. I don't think the double fire mode ever gets used, but there's no harm in setting both to the same value. [EDIT: I think I just had a brain fart, and reversed the single/double fire terminology...anyway, if you set them both the same, you don't have to remember which one is which]

I also don't know the exact value that GM uses for the injector constant for 305's in $32 -- if you can find a stock 305 bin, either auto or manual, use that number. It should be close to 19. A 350 bin should be more like 22. Someone more familiar with $32 than I am can probably chime in with the precise values of the stock constants. (bottom line IMHO is that you want to set the injector constant to match what the injectors actually flow, at the fuel pressure you're running -- once you've done that, leave the injector constant and fuel pressure alone).

For the '89 $6E, 305 LB9s used an injector constant of 19.48, and 350 L98 cars used 22.36 (for injectors that I'm sure you already know were rated at 19 pph and 22 pph respectively)

If that '87 memcal has a broadcast code sticker on it, and you don't already know what it was from, post the BCC and I'll look it up.

I'll have to leave $32-specific tuning advice to those who have experience with that code. My TPI car spends most of its time in speed density, and when I do run MAF, it's $6E.
