Help a brother out v.2.0

Continued from this thread.
https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=251911

I finally got the autoprom in. I hooked it up and set it to do datalogging. I clicked connect.....and...nothing. Same exact thing. The error message that datamaster is giving me is "PCM not detected," and something about the version might be wrong for the car.

I am at my wit's end with this BS. I think it is a settings problem.

HELP!!

Try again

There must be something askew there.
you stated earlier that "Its a 7730 ECM with a 91 1LE Prom (dealer part) " I don't know what the 1LE Prom is.
Do you know what the broadcast code is on it?
AUJP, ANHT, or something similar. That might help narrow the field of possible problems.
Besides that,
Make sure you have the "DLL" file installed in the TunerPro directory like the instructions say or even if connected you won't see anything..
You may also not have the correct "ADS" file setup.
Goto the TunerPro site and download the 1227730.ads file and click the three dots above the "edit datastream definition" in the ALDL logging screen.
That will allow you to load the proper communication setup.
Two ways to try this communication.

a.) Try the TunerPro setting on "Max232 with horizontal switch "AWAY" from the cable connector. This is not using the AutoProm "guts" so to speak, just a cable interface.

b.) Try TunerPro setting of "AutoProm" with the horizontal switch towards the cable connector. This runs through the "guts".
Other than that, the comm port settings on your computer must only be lower than comm4, and be sure to set the vertical switch to the center position.
The other two positions are "down" 10K across A&B (not used for your setup) and other direction "Up" is to flash the codes on the service engine light. (could have Up/dn backwards in my description, but easy to figure out)
If you can't get anything to flash with the vertical switch then I doubt that your memcal is correct which if that's the case there will be no communication either.
That would be the root of the problem.
Hope you make some progress.

Checked it twice.

what does it mean for a computer to not recognize software? your setup, be it a 91Z or an 89, is well tested, so its very likely something simple.

Set the horizontal switch to the position towards the outside of the device (away from the serial port). Open tunerpro. In the preferences, set the ALDL interface type to max232. hit F4 to open the ALDL datalogging interface. If this is a 91Z, open the 1227730.ads file. If its an 89 (1227165), open 1227165_6E.ads. Make sure the vertical switch is in the topmost position. Click connect. If this is a 1227165, it may take a few (up to 10) presses of the connect button.

Again, the 1227165 and 1227730 are well tested and known to work. =)

Let me know if you stlil have problems. Send Craig or myself an email if necessary.

I tried everything. I am going to try it on this CPU really quick and let you know.

The little box when you plug in something pops up and says "USB to Serial" and trys to install software for it, but there is no software. Then in Tunerpro, it says something in the bottom left about "Hardware not detected."

My cable did the same thing, so let me look into that.

I'm not sure. I've never heard of anyone having issues with the installation routine.

Can you, perhaps, give details of the errors you're seeing? What OS is on your dad's new computer? etc? Give me some details and we'll work you through it.

---------

Oh, so I just read your previous reply... so it sounds like you don't have the driver installed for the AutoProm. You can download it from Moates's web site. When Windows looks for the driver, point it to the unzipped folder containing the driver files you downloaded from Moates's site. That will solve your problems.

Alternately, you can connect to the Internet before connecting the AutoProm to your Dad's computer. The drivers can be installed automatically via the Internet.

Both computers are XP.

Plug in USB, get the message "Found new Hardware USB <-> Serial"
Then pops up the box "Found New Hardware Wizard." It asks me to help install software for the usb-serial. I click yes and have it do it automatically and it says "Cannot Install this Hardware"

"The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necassary software."

The box on the bottom says "Found New Hardware, this device may not work properly."

This older computer installed it all automatically.

Ideas?

First go here: http://www.moates.net/gmecm/hworder.html
Find the USB driver link and download it.
You need to download the drivers and "unzip" them into a folder.
Then follow the instructions here:
http://www.moates.net/gmecm/usbdrvr/...stallation.htm

That should get you going.

That appears to have worked, but I can only get it into COM4. Would that be a problem?

Should be OK.
Make sure there are no network drivers or other communication stuff loading like those USB jump drives or PC card slot stuff.
Sometimes they cause problems with communications.
XP should handle it well.

DataLog and make sure it is saved as a .CVS file and Post it here and you will get some response on where to start tuning.

www.theblackbeast.com/firstrun.csv

There ya go. I only ran to about 5500 in 2nd.

One thing is obvious, between 3100 and 4700 in 1st gear (beginning) I am picking up 3* of knock.
