Car: 1987 Trans Am GTA
Engine: 357ci Stealth Ram - Under Pressure
Transmission: Built 700r4/Pro Yank 3400 Extreme
Axle/Gears: 9-Bolt 3.27
High BLMs.
Hey.
Engine specs;
Holley Stealth Ram,
Edelbrock performer RPM heads
Comp cams XE268.
Heres the deal. With timing at -2* the BLMS are around 130 idle in gear and 140 idle in park and the car seems to idle and drive fine.
When I put the timing to where it should be, 6-8*btdc the BLMS are around 140 in gear and 150+ out of gear. When the timing is at this, the car surges at idle and low load cruise.,
Any ideas? Could this be a vacuum leak or just a tuning issue?

Basically you are running too lean. Have you done any tuning with the new combo?

yeah id be very careful w/ blms that high im just a newb to tunning but u could easily be destroying pistons running that lean i would think since the target zone is 128.

I have the ability to tune my own chips, but just got the ALDL cable.
Running blms at 140 is likely causing my surging condition at idle and low load cruise when the timing is at 6*, correct?

It certainly isn't helping, although there could be other contributing factors.
Get the BLM's down first, and if that doesn't solve the problem start looking for other causes.

As for the surging, my car had that for 4 years, bucking at light load, low rpm. I checked every possible thing you can imagine. Turned out to be a large transition in the stock timing table- smoothed it out a bit and it solved it immediately.
