VSS required?? '8746

Hello,

I have converted a friends '60's 302W in a '32 Tudor to run TBI with a '8746.

I have it running and idling well, and with no error codes (disabled all the ones that were not relevant).

The car runs a C4 trans, so no TCC..

My question is about the VSS. It does work in WinALDL when connected to the C4's VSS, but it reads about 4x actual speed. I have been thru the hack, and can find no mention of a pulse/mile paramater or similar, so I am thing that an external box (dakota?) might be the only way to fix it...

The car runs fine with the VSS disconnected.
Can anyone tell me why it might be required?? If not, I'll just leave it disconnected..

Many thanks,
Ben.

If you are going to want to use Highway mode, or cruise, you will need the VSS. I'm not sure exactly what other functions use the VSS input. I seem to remeber the IAC Idle step peice, using the VSS input for something, but it has been a while since I've really looked at it. I'm sure RBob, Deminted, or Grumpy will be able to tell you.

I know that on the f-cars, there is a VSS buffer box, located under the dash. I am not sure if it modifies the pulse per mile count at all, as it comes out of the buffer box. Again, I seem to vagely remeber a thread from years ago, about a couple of diffrent buffer boxes, that would modify the VSS signal in diffrent ways. I think RBob posted that inforamation at some point.

Yeah, thats pretty much what I figured John..
I haven't used the '8746 before, so I'm not really familiar with its quirks.
I went thru the hack looking for things that relate to the VSS input, and I didn't see any that will affect this application (no TCC, no smog), so I think I am ok..
I can live without highway mode..

Have I missed anything??
