88 TPI T56, 93 TBI (4L80?) starting from scratch, recommendations?
Hey guys, haven't been around in a while.
I have experience with Electromotive's TechII, but would like to get underway with programming factory stuff. I have an 88 GTA with a what I assume is the factory comp for a 350 TPI and 700r4. It has run on the TechII for almost ten years off the street. I swapped in a T56 and would like to remain compatible with it or a similar manual trans. I miss having it on the street here in wonderful CA . Whether it goes back on the street or not I'd like to apply the TechII to something else now.
I also have 93 TBI in a four wheeler. It runs well and like a factory computer is controlling. The truck started out as a 1500 350 TBI 4wd with a manual tranny. In order to make it street legal I may need to pull the Th400 for a 4L80. Not sure if they'll let me run a manual valve body and a manual TC lock up. I'd rather control it with a comp anyway if I can make it transparent.
Can I use the factory comp to run the 4L80 with a factory comp or does it always use a stand alone comp? If so, can I use the same software etc. to tune both the engine and tranny comp?
As of today what do you recommend I purchase in the way of software and hardware in order to program both of these engines and possibly a 4L80? I have an old 386 floating somewhere I used to run the TechII, a Windows XP comp and now a brand new unit running Vista.
Any suggestions, info/links you can provide will be greatly appreciated. I look forward to spending time here again. I've been focussing on other things for a while. It has been a very enjoyable and helpful site in the past.

There are a couple of threads talking about the $0D TBI code that can run the 4L80. No need for a stand alone ECM. A quick search for $0D will get you there.
TunerPro software can tune both of the ECMs you mentioned. The Author believes in DIY tuning and offers it for free.
