reflash a prom in a truck

hey guys i read the stickies and find them to leave me confused still all that i have found is that you can run a chip from a 93 94 95 truck in your cars so i was hoping that one of you could give me a breakdown of what you would use to do tis rather than 400 different programs and pieces of hardware
----------
all i want to do is reset it to defaults because it has some fuel system problems the fuel pump relay isn't getting voltage

What year is the truck? What type of induction system does it have?

Re: reflash a prom in a truck

You wont beable to reflash it like the newer stuff but you will beable to do a chip conversion and upgrade to a newer style chip that way you can reburn your own chips at will. Check out Moates.net for some info on this, Or you can upgrade to the new Flash EBL from Dynamic EFI that is easily reflashable from a laptop and a better ecm all together. Hope this helps a little??

Re: reflash a prom in a truck

even with the PCM disconnected you should still have power on 1 terminal of the fuel pump relay.
if you don't, check the fusible links at the battery junction box.

Re: reflash a prom in a truck

well what happened was i had no fuel at the injectors and they were getting voltage so i replaced the fuel filter and part of the fuel line then i checked the fuel pump at the odb 1 then i tested the fuel pump relay then i tested the leas from the pcm to the relay for continuity then i tested the pcm for voltage on that lead and it was dead but it was a sunday so i went to my friends junkyard and pulled a pcm out of another 5.7L tbi and it ran but the transmission would not function properly with that computer so monday i called the dealership and went to a larger junk yard and got the correct pcm for both the engine and transmission and the trans worked fine but the engine was sputtering and would stall and at the same time the fuel spraying from the fuel injectors would spray whiteish and then it would no longer run after a couple days of this at first it would restart if i disconnected the battery but then that stopped working to i dont know if it is a computer issue or if it is a bac sensor somewhere but as i said it is odb 1 so it is hard to tell although the check engine would flash when it was in the process of stalling tell me what you think i did wrong and thanks for the other info you already posted

Re: reflash a prom in a truck

they used the same PCM in different applications, an example is the 7730 ECM was used in 90~92 thirdgens with TPI, the same ECM was also used in the 1987 Firenza 2.0, 1987-89 Celebrity/Ciera with 2.8L & a good number of other cars. the MEMCAL is different for each of those i listed & won't work right in the other cars.
did you swap the MEMCAL from your old PCM into the replacement?

that cable will allow you to check codes & data log, with it you should be able to data log most any OBD1 GM car or truck that you can get the right definition files for.

to be able change the programing, you need a chip burner, a chip & a way to install the new chip.

Re: reflash a prom in a truck
