New to tune-Looking for a starter 350 tbi bin

HEah guys, so I finally saved up the money to get a burn 2 unit and g2 adaptor from Moates. I looking to get a starter 350 tbi bin. I have an 89 camaro, did a 350 swap with a mild cam, but had to end up using the 305 heads and intake. I havent found much on Moates.net so far so anyone can help with the bin file or if anyone has experience with the burn 2 and g2 adaptor I'm all ears. Already have aldl cable and downloaded tuner pro etc... I do have a little experience but want to make sure im on the right track. Thanks...
Factory chip was ANTT

Can start with ANLU, that is a 5.7l Caprice cop car calibration. There are copies of it on the 'net.

If the Burn2 will read a 32kb PROM, read in ANTT and start with that.

Re: New to tune-Looking for a starter 350 tbi bin

Ok, so i found out that it will read them but can't burn the 24 pin chips. I did manage to find a 746 ANLU bin file, I brought it up in tuner pro but to be honest im not sure what to look for and not having a stock bin i can't use the difference finder tool.. Does that bin sound right or no?

Re: New to tune-Looking for a starter 350 tbi bin

From Moates site...
[/USB Chip Programmer works with the AT29C256, 27SF512, and AM29F040 chips. Self-powered from the USB port, so no power adapter is needed! Burner can also be used to read stock GM memcals using the HDR1 adapter. While it will only program the three types of chips listed, please note that those three chips can be used as drop-in replacements for most EFI applications.
What is reason you ccnnot use one of the above chips he lists? I think one came with Burn 2 right?

My questions is for the bin file not the chip I bought two newer style chips from him along with the g2 adaptor so they work.

Re: New to tune-Looking for a starter 350 tbi bin

I managed to get the 746 anlu chip burned last night, the car fired up running super rich with a high idle and a check engine light, it wasn't flashing just solid. I do have the fuel pressure turned up a bit it's at 15psi. I tried to pull the codes but the diagnostic terminals are not putting out information not even the code 12. I'm guessing I have something either wrong with the setup or the burn?

PROM may be in backwards. Always check for the SES blink after every flash:

At key-on, engine-off, the SES should turn on briefly, blink off, then turn on solid. Can repeat after 10 sec's of key-off.

Rapidly flashing means a checksum error (remove PROM and do a key-on). Solid on is bad.

Re: New to tune-Looking for a starter 350 tbi bin

Just tried it again, with the chip in the I'm pretty sure it came from the factory the ses light was on all the time but did some quick flashes to it almost couldn't tell unless I stared at it for a few seconds. When I switched the chip around the same thing happened but I couldn't see those quick flashes, to reiterate the sea light was on prob 99.9% of the time the only time it wasn't was the nano second that it seemed to flash. I tries a wrong prom before and could visable tell the flashing that occurs this was different. I did go back over the soldering and made sure everything was good to go.

Re: New to tune-Looking for a starter 350 tbi bin

I just finished trying a couple other bins
Antv_61
anlu
Antt from a 305 firebird just to see what would happen
Most from moates website and everyone had the ses light.
I'm at a loss
I do have a backup ecu with a chip that was burned a year and a half ago, I brought it up in tunerpro and the numbers do t make sense there was no mask Id and the target rpm with ac off was 0. But it runs (a little rich) and no ses light.

Re: New to tune-Looking for a starter 350 tbi bin

If my ses light is on constantly could I have a bad ECM? Or is it likely something with the setup? Checked all solder joints they seem to be good, switched ECMs to my backup and it's fine it'll read out code 12, but when I install the ECM with the g2 adaptor it won't read anything. I'm trying to get back on moates.net forumns but can't remember my user name, and the Moates website isn't sending me a confirmation email after reregistering with a new email. Actually ended up emailing support a few times and when I finally got an email back he said the install of the adaptor might be at fault but everything is exactly like the instructions.. ??

Re: New to tune-Looking for a starter 350 tbi bin

Ok finally got a support guy to email again. He said I had the base backwards so I unsoldered it from the ecu board switched it around and resoldered it(which didn't make sense since either way the pins were the same). Put the adaptor back in then burned a chip again and got the same result..A service engine soon light.. I have tried multiple bin files, checked soldering, bought new chips, quadruple checked offsets, etc... Has anyone had this much trouble with a g2 adaptor before?

Re: New to tune-Looking for a starter 350 tbi bin

My ZIF adapter pushfit into my soldered in socket was problematic. If I hit a bump it would disconnect from socket and throw a CE light and flip to limp mode. Is the G2 soldered in place?

Re: New to tune-Looking for a starter 350 tbi bin

The push in part is not. I followed what moates.net install said to do. Did you solder yours? I cjust checked all the pins for continuity to the bottom of the board and followed every trace and everything is fine. No bridges in the solder.

Re: New to tune-Looking for a starter 350 tbi bin

So I tried putting my stock chip in the base thats soldered to the board that the g2 plugs into and it fit fine and the car fires up with no check light, so its either the adaptor, chip or software problem. Im using the flash and burn software that came with the burn2 and tunerpro to look at the chips. I always do a erase chip, and black check before burning and then after burning a verify chip with buffer to make sure its done right.

Re: New to tune-Looking for a starter 350 tbi bin

If the stock chip works right, but the ones you programmed don't, then it has to be an offset problem, or the way the bin has been saved.

I just downloaded ANTT from moates .net, and it saves as a 16KB file, but everything else that I have a listing for the 1228746 uses a 4KB bin.

Re: New to tune-Looking for a starter 350 tbi bin

I tried a few from moates the ANLU and ANTT 91 firebird 305 bin. All were 4kb the only one thats 16kb is the ANTT_image bin. Should I be using that? I thought the image bin file was for far more experienced users?

Also just got an email from moates, they said try reading the stock chip then burning it on the newer chip. I read it but when put into tuner pro all the values are zeros...Still at work so i can't try it in the car....

Re: New to tune-Looking for a starter 350 tbi bin

Ok, I finally got one to work with no sea light, I burned the stock chip ANTT to the newer style 27s512. The catch is all the values are zero. It does idle somewhat normal I guess though. I guess fuel would be the first to tune but I'm not sure where to start, haven't tried a Data log yet but will tonight just wanted to post here first. Thanks to all who have helped. I'm sure I'll still need a bunch more to come
By the way the chip I was using burned all the bins with the exception of the stock bin fine I got a buffer match error so I switched to a new chip and it worked fine. Not sure why

that is not good. I use a flash based ECU so i cant be of much help. It has been years since I burned a chip. What file definition are you using? 8746-ECU uses a $61.

All the previous bins were $61, which all ended which the ses light. I'm going to try burning some with that other chip tonight but don't think I'll get anywhere..

Here are some tips on what to look for via the SES light:

Remove the PROM from the ECM and key-on, engine-off. The SES should flash rapidly. This is a checksum error and the ECM is also in limp mode.

A proper PROM, at key-on, engine-off: the SES should turn on briefly, blink off then turn on solid. Can repeat the test after a minimum of 10-seconds of key-off. The blink is the key, if it does that the ECM is running from the PROM.

If the SES just turns on solid, or not at all, then the PROM is locking up the CPU address or data bus. This can be caused by a variety of reasons. PROM in backwards, PROM bad, not making good contact, improper flashing, and so on.

Re: New to tune-Looking for a starter 350 tbi bin

Everyone i had was a true solid light except the stock chip i copied which when put in tunerpro had zeros across the board. The check light did exactly that ;turn on briefly, blink off then turn on solid. Then when I started it up- no light still so I'm guessing its still in limp mode if all the values are zero but no check light? Im getting way outta whack now..lol

Ok finally some good news I used a chip that I ordered the other day and burnt the anlu bin on it exactly the same way I've been trying to burn the others and it worked no ses light, she misses a bit at idle and she stalls out given more than partial throttle. I guess time to tune. Where should I start ? I heard get as blms as possible? And thanks for all the help guys

Did you use 350 injectors (61#/hr - 67#/hr) or the original 55#/hr ones? If the latter will need to add either fuel pressure or injectors to the list.

Then the VE tables. Can use the BLM values to adjust the tables. Since you are using the stock ECM head over to the TBI board, up in the sticky's, "come in for a free tune." That thread covers just about everything you need to know and do.

Re: New to tune-Looking for a starter 350 tbi bin

Hey dollarbill I know this is an old thread but I am having the exact same problem you were having with the ses light. How is your car running now? Jw. I have the same setup but in a 91 camaro rs and on stock chip it Dies at stop lights after a hot start. And with the programmed chip in rums alot better but idles high and I can't connect my data logger through tuner pro. Any fix for that? Thanks
