I just got myself all setup for burning chips for my L03 tbi. I only ordered two of the 27sf512 chips thinking I would alternate between the two. Although, it seems that one of the chips always gives me a bad prom code. The chip reads, erases, and burns with no problems on the BURN2 device. Put in my ecm, starts up but check engine light is on. The other chip works with no problems at all. For now I've just been erasing and burning the one good chip every time I change something. Since the "bad" chip appears to work fine on my laptop but not in my ECM, is there anything I can do to the chip get it working in my ECM? or should I just deem the chip as no good? I will be ordering more blank chips. I'm thinking I should order a handful of them if this is a common issue.

I have not had that problem, but admittedly, I have not burned very many different chips. There are a lot of folks on here who have a lot more experience with chips, perhaps hundreds. I have had problems reading in old chips, but they came from junkyards and were of dubious quality to start with. Never had problems with the 27F512s yet. If erasing the chip doesn't fix it... not really sure where to go from there. It may be a bad chip.

Also be careful when handling the chips. All it takes is a small static zap to a pin and it's toast. Pick the chip up by the ends while avoiding getting near any of the pins.
