sounds like the typical key cylinder issue. ither its not reading the chip or its grounding out.
go to GMpartsdirect.com or your local dealership. the PN is 2603390. i replaced mine last month due to it jammed up and it was also starting to act up a tad. when you replace it you will need a steering wheel puller, a lock plate tool, a small assortment of sockets, and a allen or torx end to remove the cyl.
we didnt pull the whole coulmn apart, we just dropped it, ran the wire down the coulmn and all was good. at the base of the coulmn where the wires come out ther will be this plastic sleve, open it up and it will make running the cyl wires a lil easier. do this after you drop the coulmn. the distance between where you start the wire and it comes out is a total of 7 or so inches believe it or not. ya have any ques i'll be glad to help ya.
i forgot to mention, you will need a new key. take yuor old key so they can get the resistance code and give them the brass blank that comes with the new cyl and thtey will cut you a new key no sweat.
