Viper 550 ESP Alarm

My camaro has a viper 550 ESP alarm with remote start. Is there a way to disable the remote start myself? I need to have it turned off altogether or just know exactly which wire(s) I would need to disconnect to prevent the remote start from working..

Disconnecting the remote starter.

On the ignition wire harness there will be a yellow wire for automatics or a purple wire for manual transmissions. Not sure if your care originally came with a manual since it shows that it has a T56. That wire should will be cut in half with a relay in between it which kills the starter. On the side of the (yellow or purple wire) that goes to the starter NOT THE IGNITION key side, will be two thick wires attached to it. One which goes to the relay that I mentioned before, and another one that goes to the alarm which is the remote start wire. Disconnect that wire and see if the remote start function stops working. If so try to start the car with your key to see if you didn't accidentaly cut the wire that goes to the relay that kills the started.

Hey well I had to swap out my steering column so I finally got around to taking a look under the dash, and I'll be honest, I have no clue what the hell I'm looking at under here.. The alarm install is a disaster and its just a ball of wires.

Anyway, something is so screwy the way this is wired. I can jiggle around the bundle of alarm wires and it triggers the remote start! No need for the remote the car started about 4 times while I was reorganizing some wires to make it fit a little better..

Anyway, as I mentioned my car was orginally an automatic, so I was looking for the yellow wire and the only one I see is located in these 2 pics, and it connects to a green wire which goes into a relay which I do hear clicking when remote starting.. I know the pics arent the best cuz of the mess but do you know which wire I might need from these pics? I pointed out the yellow wire that goes to the relay.

there are alot of wires off of the 550 harness sections but that looks pretty bad.

can you get to the brain, main box? if so it is labeled on the box what wires do what. simply disconnect that for the starter and kill switch if the above doesn't work.

i just went through this myself, the alarm will still work assuming everything else is right. from the picture it might be a good idea to go through and reconnect the wires as it looks pretty bad. the alarm is a nice alarm, worth keeping but clean up the hornets nest.

good luck.

Hey guys. Haven't posted here in a while. Veteran alarm/starter installer here, and I used to install a lot of Viper (DEI) product.

Can you get to the main brain of the unit? It will have a wire diagram printed on the back.

There is a small, black/white wire named "neutral safety."

If the black/white does not have a ground on it, the remote starter will not work.

There are several different ways the installer might have done the job.

--He might have tied the black/white directly to the neutral safety wire in the car, so the remote start won't work if the car is in gear.

--He might have connected the black/white to the small toggle switch that comes with the unit, and then grounded the other side of the switch.........this allows the user to disable the remote starter with the toggle switch.

--He might have installed the toggle switch, AND connected the other side to the neutral safety................now, the user of the car has the switch available, as well as the safety aspect of the neutral switch.

--He might just grounded the black/white wire directly, and thrown the toggle switch away.................this is what gets done most of the time, partially out of installer laziness, but mostly because the customer will kick or play with the switch and disable the remote start by accident.

Anyway, find out what's going on with that black/white wire, disconnect it, and the remote start will not work anymore

------------------------

TWO MORE TIPS:

1. You may see a small brown wire going to the brake switch. If you cut this from the brake, and connect it to constant power, the remote start will not work anymore.

2. You said the remote starter will activate by wiggling the wiring. This may be fixable. On the brain, there's a white/blue wire that says, I think, "activation input." When you momentarily ground this wire, the remote start comes on.........ground it again, and it stops.

It is likely that the white/blue wire is contacting ground intermittently. Find the problem, insulate the wire, and the problem should stop.

Thanks for the info and tips! I'll look more into those options the next time I get under the dash.. For now the remote start system will still engage, but it can't start the car.

If you see the green wire that is connect to the yellow ignition wire that goes to the relay, the black wire that also comes out of the relay goes back to the other side of the cut yellow ignition wire, then that black wire has a purple wire tapped into it. I unplugged the purple wire which I assume goes to the starter and if I try to remote start it, it will still run through the system but as it goes to start, nothing happens.

I defintely want to look into stopping the wires jiggling from engaging the remote start even though its not gonna work..

I'm pretty sure he never installed any toggle switch for the remote start itself, I don't remember him mentioning anything.. The only switch was to disable the alarm and turn it back on, which I actually pulled the wire right out the switch once when I took the bottom panel off and I don't even remember which wire attachs to it I just use the remote to disable the alarm system if I need to anyhow.
