wiring up a switch
wiring up a switch....i have a rocker switch i belive its 30 amp and a 30 amp relay i bought a while back i belive the relay is just an ***. relay from advanced it says it for lights etc... i want to wire the switch up to work my cooling fan manually. ive replaced my fan relay and temp sensor and the fan will still only come on when air is on. so i think its the fan switch by passenger head. i will change this when i swap heads on it but i still want a manual control also cause i think 220 is just a little to warm for my taste. my question is can someone tell me what wires i need to splice/add to wire in this switch and relay but still maintain the same factory controls (fan on w/ air, and fan on when i change the fan switch on block) and it wont cancel out if im using the manual switch and i turn the air on will it. i know there is a faq about this on the main page but it dosent cover all of these. any help would be appreciated thanks

You can control the fan turn on temp in the chip.. if you are burning chips. Otherwise, replacing the thermo switch in the head might do it for you. The only thing you might not want the fan running all the time- it will wear out sooner. Also, it might be a PITA to always turn the fan on and off all the time. One more thing- if you have a relay, you don't necessarily need a 30A switch to control it, the relay handles the current f wired correctly

I have mine wired up to a switch (when i bought the car it was like that) It really is not much of a pain at all to turn the things on or off all the time.. I have my rocker switch where the cig lighter used to be.. it lights blue for on.. works out nicely. especially since i do not have the AC anymore lol. My car even on 115 degree days sitting in rush hour traffic never gets above 210

well since i run a 8746 .bin i dont have the luxury of fan controls unless i use the hack and i havent actually started burning just yet still need a few more things first...as far as the fan motor ive had it running all the time for over a year now w/ no problems i just dont like driving w/ ac or heat on all the time. and i dont mind turning the switch off and on too much no different then turning on your headlights. its not my fan relay thats bad though its the fan switch in passenger side of the block it has to be cause everything esle is new for the fan. and it has a life time warranty so im not worried about it burning up either. i just want to put the switch on it w/ out changing any other funtions like it being on w/ the ac *dont want them to cancel the fan out if i have ac on and switch on but still want it to engage w/ just the ac but switch off if that makes since) i also want it to work normally when fan switch is changed and ill keep the manual switch just for a back up. if any one can help id appreciate it. thanks. john

one more question if i wire this into the existing relay will that relay be a saftey?? like if somethin shorts out and has current draw on it will it kick that relay...if not can i put my relay in line w/ that relay then the switch to the new relay if that makes since the relay i have is just a 30 amp which is what the switch is...thanks

k i got the switch wired and it works but the only thing is when i wired it into the relay it lights up when the fan is off...any reasoning behind this. does it have somethin to do w/ if the relay works by providing ground when its active and constant power?? dont know if this is even how it works just guessing. thanks
