Reoccuring blown fuse...
I have a 91 RS and it keeps blowing the same fuse over and over again. Whenever the underhood light wire is connected, it blows the 20AMP fuse controlling the interior lights, power locks and rear hatch release. I can't figure out why. Also, whenever my passenger door is closed a bit hard, it blows the same fuse... Sometimes when I try puttin a new fuse in, it blows immediately (on contact). When the fuse is blown, my alarm makes the alert such as a light is left on or something (which its supposed to) ANY help or suggestions???

Could be, I will have to check that, but that still would'nt explain why the fuse blows when the hood light is connected. I bought the car with a Viper alarm installed on it by the previous owner. It is wired to operate on keyless entry basis. Could the problem be some sorta 'shady' wiring from the system? The owner seemed a like a bit of a 'billy bob' if you know what I mean. He told me the alarm didnt work but I could still use the remote for the keyless entry... Come to find out he just left the darn thing in 'valet' mode and didn't know how to turn it off...

You have a short. That means a bare HOT wire is touching the metal frame somewhere. Since you say that it does it whenever the underhood light is connected, I'd start by checking that wire. Get a wiring diagram from this site and look at everything connected to that fuse. Disconnect all the components and reconnect each one at at time and do whatever it is you do to blow the fuse until it happens.. Then you have your culprit. Check those hot wires, especially where the insulator has a possiblity of abrading through (places that move, or where a wire goes around a sharp edge or something.

Put a test light across the fuse terminals - Light on, dead short to ground. If light is on, start checking that underhood light circuit until you find the wire shorting out. When you find the wire, the light will go out. Wiggle harnesses around and watch light. You will find short, but you will need patience!

Will see if if can pinpoint the faulty wiring this weekend. I've already gone through about 17 20AMP fuses....

My 92 RS has that same problem. It is either the underhood light fixture or the wire going to it. My guess would be the fixture since it supplies the ground. Everything is fine until I open the hood, which is supposed to turn on the light. I unplugged the wire and left it at that for now.
