Coil Question - loss of power after 4000 RPM
Here's my setup:
1991 Firebird 383 HSR with Speed Density, LC-1 Wide Band O2, Hooker Shorty Headers, 3" Exhaust and all other kinds of goodies.
My questions is that I've been using the stock distributor, stock Ignition Module and stock coil. When I ran 1/8th file track, I crossed the trap in second gear at 6000 RPM rattling and loss of power.
I checked my tune. My timing and fuel seems to be right and along with others who have a similar setup.
My question is that, could I be losing power with the stock coil (external) and it detonating because of this loss of power? I've read posts and everyone has said that the stock ignition module will hold up to those RPM's. Do I need to upgrade the distributor as well?
I'm buying the MSD Blaster coil for my car tonight.
Thanks.

Re: Coil Question - loss of power after 4000 RPM
I wouldnt see why a bad coil could cause detonation problems.
