Need help!! Drained battery after radiator fan burned.
I need help bad. I have a 1991 firebird w/ 305tbi. One day while driving home my radiator fan got stuck and started smoking real bad! burned the fusible link wire right off where it conects to all the other main power wires for the car. so i replaced the fan, still nothing. then I noticed the relay prongs inside, melted the relay. so I replaced that and hooked what was left of the fusible link directly to the battery and the fan works like it was supposed to. only now my battery drains within four or five hours. Tried to find the problem with a automotive tester w/ no luck. Has anybody had this problem after a fan burned up? any suggestions? thanks in advance for any help, you guys have the most trusted third gen info on the net!

Maybe the alternator decided to take a dip at the same time.. Try to disconnect it (careful, wire comes straight from battery) and see if the drain disappears. Such a heavy drain should make something hot (120W?) and give a spark when dis/connected. Check that power distribution point for tightness while you're at it.

Re: Need help!! Drained battery after radiator fan burned.
Finally figured it out! It was a combination of two things. The main one was the rear hatch pulldown motor is toast and causing the powerdrain. the second was the headlight motors. when the car is off i can hear a tick-tick-tick-tick coming from both motors. I still have not found out why (maybe relay, but they work perfectly up and down?) but i just pulled the fuse until I find out. Any suggestions?
