autometer speedo

i had a autometer electronic speedo installed by a gm mechanic and it was working for 30 miles then stopped.when i start the car it still does what it is suppose to do but when i go down the road sometimes it works and sometimes it dont mostly dont.i called autometer and he said it probably isnt a ground and asked me how it was wired.i told him i didnt do it so he couldnt help me.if anyone has had or has the same problem i would appreciate any help.

Can you not take it back to the guy that installed it for you? I'm not sure how your setup is since you have an 88 iroc and are using an electric speedo, but there are really only a few possible culprits.
1. VSS
2. guage itself
3 bad ground.

There really isn't a whole lot to wiring up one of these guages. just a signal wire, a ground, a headlight wire.

no i cant take it back to them they have a 30 day deal and my back went out so i have not been able to get under neath the car.i bought the sender they told me to buy so i guess i will have to get under the car and see whats up since its getting warmer.

I have been fighting this problem for a while but I finially have it fixed in my '83.

So you are running both the autometer electric speedo and the electric sending unit provided by autometer?

yes,but it sucks because my back is still screwed up.i dont no why the techs at autometer dont no the problem.im sure this isnt the first time they ever heard of this
