wiring up my tach

ok i dont know if im getting all the defective tachos or not but im having the worst problem with it. I got it fused with the radio and the wire going into the coil wire that its supose to be and a good ground and nothing no zeroing out or nothing on one of the tachs and the other one just turns on it goes from 0 to 9000 then back to 7k and sits there and doesnt move... ive tried even direct conecting them to batt and the coil and still nothing am i doing something wrong or just getting all the defective tachs...

What tach did you get?

Brand, model number.

The odds of having purchased two separate defective tachs is about zero.

Without the model number we cannot provide exact details.

However many tachs have a:

GROUND

ILLUMINATION TERMINAL

TACH TERMINAL

12 VOLTS IN TERMINAL

We suggest you have a friend give you some in person assistance.

Also, you might want to buy one from a speed shop.

It might cost more, but there are people there that “turn the wrenches” and should be able to point out what wires go where.

You don’t want to hook it up wrong because you might damage it.

Re: wiring up my tach

Some tachs require you to use the GM filter that should be hidden in your dash.

Re: Filter.

As long as you hooked up the wire the used to go the original tach you are using the appropriate wire.

You want a direct feed from the TACH TERM which originates near the distributor.

Re: wiring up my tach

Every tach I`ve wired up on my camaro or chevy truck has had ground, power wire for light and a wire that connects to the tach lead at the coil.Pretty simple and I`m no mechanic.Ive never needed a filter.
