Yup, a mysterious black box.
Well, it's a relay, that's a given. But what it's for, that I cannot recall. The wire colors don't ring a bell and its location on the passenger side doesn't either.
Either aftermarket or a special option for our cars (such as some optional audio equipment etc).

I'm hoping somebody will recognize this relay, I'm very curious what it is. (because I can't believe I can't identify it :-D )

Re: help identify this for me

Do you Have power door locks??? If you do ... do they work from both sides... Later years of the camaro seperated the relay into two one for the right side and one for the left... Thats the best I got soooo I hope thats it cuz it will make me feel so smart... In the mean time I research the wiring diagrams I have for the year and hopefully find something....

Re: help identify this for me

hope i'm right so that I can help you out, but it looks like your blower fan relay for your heater/ac fan. turn your fan on and then unplug one of the wires, see if that shuts it off for you. mine use to be there, but after i added the gps tracking device and alarm system i didn't have room for it, so i moved it to the other side of the firewall and mounted it by the battery instead. don't ask why that far forward....

Re: help identify this for me

well, there is no alarm. the blower motor works just fine and yes power locks..(but they work from both sides, just fine) i can't seem to locate as to where the wires were heading.

Re: help identify this for me

We can rule out the door lock relay (different wire colors and it's a single relay located behind the driver side kick panel) and also the high-speed blower fan relay (different colors again and that relay should be on the blower case in the engine compartment, next to the resistor pack).

The more I look at it, the more I have a feeling that it's aftermarket.

Can you trace the wires under the dash? Do they go into the wiring loom or are they attached by soldering, crimp-ons or another way to existing wires?

Lou

If you do a google search a lot of results lead towards a relay for the power antennae

Re: help identify this for me

I dont think it would be for the power antenna but its possible... I'm thinking that it may be a aftermarket relay for the door locks... I had my aftermarket alarm installed on that side cause of the room and they added the relays in the same place.. Check to see if its even getting power. If its not then I would remove it because it looks like the other wires go to nothing.. I think Lou is right to trace the wires back and see if they are connected to anything under the drivers side dash of the console... Theres only so may relays on this car that it could be and if the locks work, blower works, ac fan works there isn't much more.. I would do as Lou says and trace it back.. Find out how it connected and that should tell you whether or not you need it... My guess is that you dont...
