1989 Iroc Z Fuel Pump not working
okay so I just picked up this 1989 Iroc Z, and the fuel pump doesnt work. I put in a new relay, nothing. What's supposed to happen when you turn the key? Does the relay click, and the fuel pump primes? I know the pump is supposed to prime, but it doesnt. Also, I used a voltmeter, and theres only .06 volts going to that fuel pump relay, I tested the orange wire. Is this supposed to be charged with 12 volts? Please Help!!!

When the key goes on, the pump will prime for 2 seconds, then you will hear it turn off. You did check the fuses, right? Are you carbed or TPI? I am not sure about the wiring- I am not home to check my car. I can get back to you later.

Oh yeah, sorry I forgot. It's the 305 TPI, not the 5.7L. And which fuse would it be? I figure it would be the one that said "F/P' but that one is good

That is the right one. Soooooo, you have other issues. Did you do a search on the forum for these problems? Try searching the Tech/General engine forum. What you want to learn is how to diagnose the problem, not replace parts until you chance upon the right one. It is great you know how to use a voltmeter, this will help a lot.

If you say you don't have 12V on the orange wire on the F/P relay, that's a power problem.
You said you checked the fuse. Was it the single fuse by the battery, attached to the fender? That one powers your F/P and the ECM memory. Without it, the car won't run.
There's a short troubleshooting article on the F/P circuit. If you follow it, it will help you find the faulty component: http://www.austinthirdgen.org/index.php?pid=35

Welcome to TGO. Log on, click on message boards, click on electronics, then look at that little red white and blue panel at the top left. It says new thread. Click on it and you're ready to go. Have fun! May also try TBI or TPI boards depending on what you have for further info. The search feature is very handy as well for popular topics that have already been covered many times. Good luck with your car!
