PLEASE HELP!!!!!

my camaro will start and run fine when its cold, when the motor is warmed up and i shut it off it wont start. i checked the fuel rail and i got 42psi, checked spark and i have that. open up the throttle body and spray starting fluid, turn the key and let fuel pump run then start it with my foot on the gas and it starts. when its warmed up it idles kind of funny but then i give it gas and its good. i just bought an ecm, fuel pump, plug wires, ignition coil, fuel filter, changed oil & filter, i think the PROM might be bad but idk, i changed the ecm cause it got hot when i drove and the motor warmed up but it didnt come with the PROM. the 3 things for ignition are there but when its warmed up something is telling the fuel injectors not to fire right idk...... please help me solve this nightmare so i can still run the tpi

PS. the car sat for a while so thats y i changed the fuel filter/pump and oil/oil filter

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Have you tried changing the ignition module? It's inside the dist, under the rotor. They can go bad and not work well when they get hot.

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!!

That's why I NEVER let anyone work on my cars - I can mess things up myself and it's way cheaper!

Plus, I get to learn - 5 years ago I had no clue about anything Camaro/Firebird related, and now I've had cars 3 apart and put back together. Maybe sad, but I used to dream about girls - now I dream about Camaros! (Maybe I'm just getting old) At least my Camaro will never leave me AND take everything I have (it won't all fit).

DID YOU FIGURE IT OUT YET?? I HAVE AN 89 FORMULA 350 TPI. I JUST WENT THROUGH THIS SAME SITUATION. (VERY FRUSTRATING) FINALLY TOOK MINE TO THE SHOP. NARROWED THE PROB DOWN TO THE FUEL INJECTORS. THEY SAID RESISTANCE TESTED FINE COLD, BUT WHEN TESTED HOT 4 OF THE 8 WOULD LOSE RESISTANCE THUS NOT FIRING PROPERLY. THEY QOUTED ME GET READY $2400. SO I PICKED UP MY CAR WENT HOME CALLED JEGS MAIL ORDER. THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED 21# INJECTORS SO I PURCHASED A SET OF ACCEL BRAND 21# INJECTORS FOR $278.00, TPI INTAKE GASKET SET $40. FOLLOWED THE SERVICE MANUAL AND WAS DONE IN ABOUT 4 1/2 HOURS. THEY WERE RIGHT, STARTS EVERY TIME NOW, JUST PASSED SMOG YESTERDAY. STOAKED

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!!

yea i agree with you 100%, my car is at my friends shop tho and hes changing the whole distributor. he said that theres a coil on the inside of the distributor that dosnt like to polorize when hot. he also told me when warm the test light would dim out on the injectors, y hes changing the distributor idk, but i purchased accel injectors off of summit, 24lb/an hour. im pretty sure those r the same as stock

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I thought 19# was stock for 305 and 21# for 350 (L89), you don't want too much fuel.

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I have the same problem, 91 Z28 w 1987 L98 350 TPI 400 R4, gets hot, shut it down and then it won't start till it cools, Some suggest that i move my coil because they think it's getting to hot (temp ~180 - 200 range) Any one tell me where a Horn relay is and i need to replace turn signal switch

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!!

ok. i do have the same problem.

dumb luck let me find a way to start the car when problem happens.

next time you drive the car and you shut it off when it does not restart open ecm unplug chip and plug back in. mine fires up instantly after i do this.

1 thing i noticed was my digi fuel pressure gauge dropped line pressure after i unplugged chip from ecm.

so i replaced ecm with known good spare i have same issue unplug chip plug back in car fires right up.

tried just replacing chip same issue....
leads me to believe a ground or relay issue.
for the time being i have my ecm on the passenger floor. i drive whenever i wan't. if car wont start i unplug chip plug back in watch fuel pressure drop and car fires up
