distributor module
will a bad distributor module be the reason for my 89 sometimes not wanting to start??
sometimes it has no spark

Don't bother having it tested, I never will again. And if you do a thorough search, you'll find a bunch of people that won't do it again either. One time I suspected my module of being bad, had it tested, got the green light that it was good. Put it back in and banged my head on the wall for another 2 days trying to figure out the issue. Then I get fed up after knowing that everything pointed to the module being the problem, so I replaced it anyway, and it fired right up first crank. So yeah, testing them is pretty much useless in my opinion. And oh, I just bought a new AC Delco Ignition module, but turned out it was the cap and rotor that was my problem. So it's for sale if you're interested. Never even plugged in.

You must've had a bonehead test yours.
When it's being tested, you need to make sure that they bang on it with their little rubber mallet AND that when they give it back to you that it's hot.
Temperature and vibration play havoc with electronics. Those 2 things need to be reproduced while testing.

You can save a lot of time and inconvenience by testing the module in the car.
Make sure it is getting voltage and pulses in.
If it’s getting proper input but not putting out it’s bad.
Solves the problem every time.
