1985 Gauge Wiring?
Does anyone make a complete wiring harness for the gauge cluster? or is it a part of the dashboard wiring?
reason i ask is because i bought my 85 IROC about 5 months ago from a guy who didnt know anything about mechanics and he did some stuff to the car like wired the fan to the ignition switch and some other random stuff, i just rebuilt a motor and put it in there, the car runs fabulous, i removed the computers wiring and left only what i believed were the wires for the sensors... but i could not find the wiring for the temperature sensor or oil pressure... and not a single one of my gauges work...
i figured instead of finding and fixing single wires might as well do them all new...
thanks for the help!

Re: 1985 Gauge Wiring?
It's all apart of the dash wiring. First of all is the fuse good for the guages? Make sure all the grounds are connected near the steering column behind the dash. One ground wire is specifically for the guages.

Re: 1985 Gauge Wiring?
all the fuses are good, im gonna look at the grounds and stuff... the guages move when the car starts, for example the tach goes straight to 7000rpm, the fuel goes straight to full and the volt gauge goes up and down and stays still... i also need new wires for the sensors to the collant temp sensor, and the oil pressure sensor... there were a bunch of wires that were cut and we tested them and they didnt seem to go to any of the gauges... so im at a loss...
hawks told me 250 for a new dash harness, how difficult is it to put in a new harness?

Re: 1985 Gauge Wiring?
$250 is a bit steep. I just replaced all my 85 wiring to an 87 GTA wiring harness from the tailights up to the motor. Its not hard if you know what you're doing. This is my 4th 3rd gen so it's all second nature to me. I would definitely go to your local pick and pull or junkyard and pick up a harness there if they have one. For the whole car it was maybe $50 that I payed so I will let you decide. Hope it works out for ya.

Re: 1985 Gauge Wiring?
250 wpuld be for a brand new wiring harness...
thats difficult, since theyre hard to find around where i live... but ill definately look...
it also doesnt help that alot of people around here are cheap backyard mechanics and do the same tings that were don on my car to theirs and stuff so that doesnt make it any easier to find a complete harness...
i guess it also would help if i could read a wiring diagram...
would you say that it can be change out in a day? being a novice?

I have this same problem, guy i got it from didn't hookup anything, so the only gauge that works is voltage, leaves me scratching my head.
